Hello

A really weird thing to ask about but I've got a new top that is lambswool, I love it, can't take it back etc....... but it is a bit big so I actually want to shrink it on purpose!

How do I do this without totally wrecking it? I haven't got a tumble dryer btw........

You might think this sounds soooo silly I know, but it was £95 down to £17 just this one size you see!

TIA

eeek! could hand wash it hot, but you can't control the amount of shrinkage , it could end up doll sized....

We received a gorgeous lambswool sweater for a newborn... it got mucky, dw washed it, tumbled it. It is now perhaps only fit for her first doll.

Sorry, I can't advise how to do this in a 'controlled' way but I am sure it's possible !

ok

you can do it in the bath

It will take a while...

Get a bucket, get soap suds, get rubber gloves.

Then you need to fill the bucket with water as hot as you can stand and put the jumper in. Agitate it until it is the size you want. Rub it with your hands etc. It may take a while. Keep going. You can, if you want, combine it with a nice bath, so long as there is something like soap involved (think shampoo or bubble bath might work...)

Alternatively, if you know anyone with a top loader machine, you can always take it out every 10 minutes

Oh and stick it in a pillowcase or laundry bad or something if you put it in the machine, to avoid bobbles.

It will be felted though, you know this, yes? It won't look or feel like lambswool. It will be like the stuff kids make Xmas decorateions out of

how about wearing it in the bath until it shrinks to fit

lulunaticmama · 04/10/2006 19:23

what if shrinks too much and she is trapped in her sweater and has to be cut out of it by the fire brigade?????

hub2dee · 04/10/2006 19:38

You listening, Tamba ?

Lauraa83 · 04/10/2006 21:01

thanks for all of those

esp FillyjonkthePumpkinEater thanks for all that ...... it has writing on across the front that is just like felt actually! I am just trying to imagine what it would be like all over

I am gonna get in a hot bath tomorrow wearing it I think and wash it with shower gel while it is on me haha.....

I'll let you know how I get on....

Thanks again

oh well i chickened out in the end in case i ruined it which knowing me I probably would have done but when I tried it on again I noticed that the only bits that were too big were the sleeves were too long so I shortened them instead and the the whole thing was a bit long so I cut some off and sewed it up and now it looks alright

Thanks for all your help anyway
