How Low Can You Go ???? What's the minimum Internet dial-up connection speed I should get from BT?

I know we are miles from the exchange......and we used to be reasonably happy with 20 - 26 Kbps, but at the moment I can only muster a speed of between 2.4 - 12 kbps and it keeps disconnecting and it's really peeing me off. We can't get Broadband and Satellite is too expensive. Any advice ??

Well, we are with talk talk, and yes we do get disconnected, but it generally reconnects pretty quickly again! and the pages download faster then they used to on normal dial up modem!
2.2mbps....we pay at the mo £10 for this a month...but hoping that one day we will ge5t it free with out Telehone package!

Sorry but the opening part of your thread reminded me of a rude joke about ...............oh never mind it was rude.

Unfortunately there is no minimum standard with dial up, but with speeds that low I would raise a fault on the line with BT, that may be the cause of it, particularly if you used to get consistently faster connection.

3andnomore..... 2.2Mbps (Awe emoticon). The fastest we have ever got is a speed 26Kbps which compared yours is slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through thick peanut butter

I raised a fault with Bt on 4.9.06. Since then have had my LJU replaced, the line checked, and a team of external engineers who last Sunday discovered an underground fault and repaired it.

I'm currently awaiting another engineer who is due to arrive on Thursday between 8am - 12pm
