Dh and I have been saving recently in my Halifax account, putting in money he gets from some occasional work and that we make on ebay. Anyway went in today to withdraw a cheque for ?1000 which I want to invest.
Anyway they wanted some extra ID (driving licence), no problem. But no asking me what my mother's maiden name was. Oh no, when did you open the account? I don't know. No idea? Well I guess it may be about 15 years ago. Mmmmm, well near enough I suppose, it was 1992. Where did you open the account? Right where was I living in 1992? Must've been xxxx. Is that right? Well no madam, it was actually in xxxx (another part of London.)
Felt really guilty as I couldn't answer the questions. Next time I'll just draw out the cash over a few days!!!

gets me when they phone you and then proceed with checks and when you cant remember they cant carry on with what they rang to tell you

Kelly1978 · 30/09/2006 02:35

it flags up every so often as random checks, next time u might not be asked nething. I regulary have to withdraw £900 for rent and every so often it falgs up. They normally ask me stupid questions like what my ast transactions were. They aren't even up to date so how the hell do I know!
I also got some silly cow trying to tell me that my driving license was illegal cos it was in a diff addy to my bank. The driving addy was right and the bank was wrong, not that it was any of their business whether or not I was driving illegally!

I ring up for work to transfer money and everytime they ask me a trick qestion of how much are your total monthly direct debits? My answer, we don't have any direct debits - see told you it was a trick question.

I use internet banking where possible as can never remember answers to questions! Would be useless on a quiz show - too much pressure.

"what is your name?"
"errrrrrr...."

trixymalixy · 01/10/2006 18:25

I phoned up to get a PIN no and set up a direct debit for a credit card I hadn't used for ages. Went through the auto security correctly and ordered a new PIN.

Had to speak to someone to request a direct debit mandate. They asked me an extra security question, what the last transaction on the account was. Couldn't remember as it was that long ago, so they refused to send me a direct debit mandate even though I had gone through lesser security to ask for a PIN to be sent out!!

How nuts is that?!?
