robinw - dp knows more about this than me, but yes, it could be - there are incompatabilities between some virus checkers and some programmes.

Are you sure it's the Mcaffee one and not your new one though?

But yes if you remove Mcaffee via add/remove programmes on the control panel there shouldn't any problems.

what is the new virus checker you're using?

i was told recently that running 2 virus checkers at once can 'cancel out' their effect.
I am not teckie but don't understand it - but the person who told me is very teckie....

I was advised to uninstall AVG and keep norton - and ensure regular updates and checks were carried out
