hi oops! i had to get a wireless router in the end. the person at currys was quite helpful but they didn't have too much in the way of choice!

so it's done now and (touch wood) seems to be ok. now i'm worried that the neighbours will be able to see exactly what i'm looking at! thanks for your help

well i had a go and managed to encypt it so well that i couldn't get in, so i had to undo it. it's confusing they didn't ask for a password to be given while i was setting it up, so i sort of muddled through how to get one. there was so many options that i think i ticked the wrong thing. argh

oops do you think we would be ok without security for a few days, whilst i can get someone more techy to look at it?

i have set the router firewall, it's just the other stuff that i'm having trouble with. it seems straightforward but i spent 2 hours yesterday trying to do it. the router i have (belkin) doesn't ask you to add a password so you have to sort of muddle through it yourself argh.

the woman at belkin tech support was laughing at me cause i was getting so wound up with it. i bow to your knowledge

what is a modem/router? is it a modem and router in one so you don't need to have both?

also do you connect a wireless router to the computer or the modem?
