What pointless one woman/man boycott are you staging?

Here's my one woman boycotts.

I have boycotted Wadebridge because they elected a total wanker to the town council who said that disabled children should be culled to save money. I rarely visit Wadebridge anyway.

I have also boycotted Dartington Hall Estate for unreasonable parking fines. I park outside the grounds. Nobody cares.

And lego minifigures as DS2 always ends up with a frigging princess or mermaid or something and we have to deal with the tears. I'm sure their sales figures are unaffected.

None of my boycotts will make any difference whatsoever. I realise this.

So what are your pointless boycotts?

Keele Services! I've just remembered this one. When I was 15 and on a school trip we stopped at Keele Services where security accused me of stealing a tiered cake tray full of cakes apparently. They came onto the bus to speak to the teachers. Not only was I wrongly accused, they damn near exposed to the teachers that I was infact completely wasted having drunk a bottle of mad dog 20/20 on the bus before we got there.

21 years later, I've never stopped at Keele services again and give them the fingers when I drive past.

I'm boycotting my dp. I just asked him if he could remember any of my useless boycotts and he said no. Bad service.
Also the small shop across from my mum's as the man who runs it is a creepy pervert. Successfully avoided going in for over five years now.

"My sister boycotts a popular walkers' pub in the Langdales as 27 years ago she found a hair in her baked potato"

"I used to boycott a pub near me as I didn't like the lighting"

BRILLIANT.

Laquila · 25/09/2014 22:47

Ahhhh Keele services. I'm not boycotting them but I do sorry of near a grudge against them for being on both the North and South sides of the motorway and causing two branches of my family to inadvertently nearly miss a ferry when we were meant to be meeting "at Keele services" and hadn't realised this. This was before mobile phones. And, apparently, common sense

nevergoogle · 25/09/2014 22:51

things were tough pre common sense, this much is true.

I boycott Starbucks and Costa, on the premise that our small town has plenty of independent coffee and tea shops whose owners don't want to be driven out of business. Support the local economy, etc.

Thing is, I hate coffee, and can't even bear to sit somehere that smells of the vile muck.

I've also boycotted those mini bottles of wine ever since they went from being 250ml to something ludicrous like 187.345732ml. It's not just about the price, it's all about whether that amount of wine is worth carrying home.

CuttedUpPear · 25/09/2014 22:56

I boycott our local Iceland on the grounds that it occupies the building that previously housed our Woolworths before they went bust. It was a lovely Woolies, it was, I miss it Sad

EvilRingahBitch · 25/09/2014 23:09

DH boycotts all films starting Scientologists (apart from Bad Boys, because you can't boycott Bad Boys obviously).

I want to boycott George Clooney since he sold his soul to Nestle. He's been in some great films, so I can't boycott those, but I officially no longer fancy him. If he decides that glamourous international academics are not really his style and dumpy middle aged mothers are what he really wants then he's bang out of luck with me.

nevergoogle · 25/09/2014 23:18

stooooop, i'm going to wake the baby with my laughing.

ipswichwitch It's not Ipswich buses is it??

I used to go out with their MD back when we were teenagers in the 70s Blush

ISpyPlumPie · 25/09/2014 23:42

The post office in the next village as the owner keeps standing as the BNP candidate in local elections.

The Sun, but don't think that can really be described as one-woman given that most of Merseyside boycott it for the same reason.

DM is a serial boycotter. A random selection of banned companies during my childhood includes Bernard Matthews (something to do with not allowing unions), Dewhursts (tax evasion) and Johnsons dry cleaners (assistant rude to her in 1983). There were many more.

SpaceStation · 25/09/2014 23:50

I boycotted a local vintage style tat and frippery shop because when I went in with 3yo DD the shopkeeper let their dog run up and jump on her and bark at her. I asked them to control the dog, and they called it off, then let it do it again straight away! DD was really scared and I was so mad I told them I wouldn't go in again. (woman bloody smirked at me Angry!)

So I enjoyed purposefully walking past the shop with my nose in the air and not going in, only for it to close down 6 months later. Serves them right but also I was so annoyed my boycott was no more!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 26/09/2014 00:50

Another vote for Classics.

I boycott Frankie and Bennies restaurants, as my DSis works for them, and they are a bunch of money-grubbing, staff-abusing, unreasonable, discriminatory, penny-pinching twatbadgers. And the food tastes of arse. And they make staff count how many pieces of fecking pepperoni go on each pizza. Life is just too short.

I also boycott Beaconsfield services, as our car was broken into. Not in the services, but in Beaconsfield town. But I never go there, only past the services, so they must bear the brunt of my misplaced boycott-rage, so ner.

Oh, and a cafe near me, which despite being 'breast feeding friendly' won't allow you to park your pram by your table. I only went once, but I have defiantly NOT bought another mediocre ham and cheese toastie there since.

kickassangel · 26/09/2014 01:43

I also boycott our local post office as one of the workers there looks like fat bald Elvis.

CheerfulYank · 26/09/2014 01:47

Dance Moms.

AggressiveBunting · 26/09/2014 02:08

My mum boycotts all supermarkets that write "5 items or less" intead of "5 items or fewer" on the check out signs. She is waging a one woman war against bad grammar at masive personal expense as the only 2 that get it right near her house are Waitrose and M&S.

I boycott sweetcorn, because I consider it unfit for human consumption.

Sapat · 26/09/2014 02:09

I boycott Ryanair for their appalling service, ditto Luton Airport.

Vertbaudet. I tried to place an order over the phone, then cancelled it when the gift they were advertising was no longer available and they replaced it with something crap. Then later I realised that even though the order had ceased to exist they had opened a credit account for me. I loathe credit accounts. I don't want them, I don't trust them and they appear on your financial score thingy. I had to write 2 angry letters before it was closed down. Ooh, still makes me angry!!!

And a local pub. I forgot my hat there, then they lost it. I am still pained 7 years later.

Apart from that I rarely hold a grudge....

ohfourfoxache · 26/09/2014 04:57

Bensons 4 Beds - since I spotted the driver of one of their delivery trucks using a handheld mobile phone whilst driving. I don't think I've ever set foot in one of their shops so that is likely to make an impact Confused

And M&S food - DMIL insists that it's the only place to shop if you're going to have a decent meal fuck the salt and fat content of course. Despite being an aspiring "lady who lunches" (read: doesn't need to work but spends her time trawling/haggling in charity shops and purchasing utter crap) she actually does very little in life. So aside from putting a ready meal in the oven and presenting this with a meagre amount of veg, she openly admits that she can't be bothered to do anything else. (This on a background of FIL being strongly advised to massively reduce his salt intake - she goes nuts if there is even a salt cellar on the table). So I'm afraid that, as a result, I last went to the food court in about 1999......

Labrat72 · 26/09/2014 06:20

I was very happy to boycott Wadebridge as soon as I'd found out where it is but I see I no longer have to. Just let me know if you change your mind though nevergoogle & I'll be right back on it.
I boycott a certain craft shop. They ran a weekend crafting retreat once and I paid my money & then broke my arm. So I asked them if I could have my money back. They replied I couldn't as they would be out of pocket. I could only get my money back if they couild re-sell my place. Fair enough.
So I kept an eye on their website, and sure enough, soon after, a notice went on saying it was sold out. So I asked for my 400 quid back.
And never got it. They ignored me, then said they weren't sold out, THEN said I couldn't have the money but they'd send the class materials (loads of paper & stuff). They never did that either & eventually I gave up.
So I boycotted them. I'm fairly sure they haven't noticed.
I also boycott Rimmel, for the awful Kate Moss & that Jagger woman ads. And AO, the appliance people, because when they delivered my washing machine, their driver asked to use the loo and then pissed all over the floor & up the side of my lovely glass shower cubicle.
I only discovered this after he'd left. So they're out too. I'm sure they're gutted.

ememem84 · 26/09/2014 06:56

Costa as the servers are rude obnoxious and think they're above making my overpriced coffee (and then get it wrong).
Luckily there's a great place near my work owned by a Portuguese couple who serve the best coffee in the world. And it's only £1.

And benneton. Years ago the sales woman told me I couldn't afford to shop there, and also insisted I was 3 sizes bigger than I am. Bitch.

neveragainmrsharper · 26/09/2014 06:59

I'm avoiding AkzoNobel products which include Dulux paint. Tax avoiding fuckers

AuntieMaggie · 26/09/2014 07:03

ohfourfoxache you just reminded me - any company whose van/lorry drivers drive aggressively/throw rubbish out the window etc - there are lots of local businesses missing out on my business that they wouldn't have had anyway

Any company who ignores my no cold caller sign especially if they wake ds (yes you safe style windows - I've had one of your people knock on the door almost every week for the past 10 weeks and sometimes a few times a week and it's always the same group of sales people!)

A community bike cafe that has no community spirit - the owner and staff are rude beyond belief. We watched them laugh in a man's face when he asked if He could have a chicken sandwich because they don't serve meat and then make fun of several customers quite literally pulling faces behind their backs whilst taking food to their tables. DP still made the mistake of asking if he could put some information up about his various cycling things hes involved in including one for disabled children which was met with rude disinterested response. it's places like these that give the cycling community a bad name.

Another vote for Classics.

Company magazine has indeed closed, by the way.

I am staging a one-woman boycott of Mac because the one time I tried to browse at a Mac counter, the passive aggressive sales assistant made me feel like I'd been caught trespassing.

Can't afford it anyway but that's not the point
