Right to cut a very long story short, we saved the tokens from the Daily Expres to get a holiday. The holiday was with Haven, who called us to say right you've got your holiday all you now owe is 32 pounds for passess and electric.
We then get a letter from dp's bank saying that the cheque we wrote (made out to express) has bounced. We thought oh shit, but nevermind we 'll go somewhere else.
We then get a letter from express saying cheque bounced but you have until april 1st to send us the money or holiday is cancelled.
We didn't send it.
Haven have just called me though to ask why we haven't sent the 32 pounds balance. I told them that the cheque bounced and they said well as far as we are concerned it says the holiday is payed for.
What are we supossed to do then ???
We do have a comformation of boking from Haven stating that we have paid.

Oh we don't have any spending money to take though either now

Go - just need food same as at home as Haven usually have activities and things to do. We have in the past done a haven hol on the weekly food budget and had a fab time. If they are not hasselling you for the £32 I would go

I think nutcracker means, when you book the cheap newspaper holidays you pay the initial booking, and then when that's confirmed some camps have extras you have to pay eg. electricity and entertainment passes, which is the extra £32 she's been asked for. So I believe they're saying they have her down as paying the initial booking, but not the extra £32 -correct me if I'm wrong nutcracker.

We're going on a SUN holiday in a few weeks time, and I don't plan to spend much, the kids will only want to go to the beach and the park, there's the entertainment on site for the early evening, and as someone already said your food budget could be the same as at home anyway.

No, right i'll tryt to explain again

We wrote a cheque for 105 pounds and was told it had been cashed, BUT then the bank told us the cheque had bounced and the Daily Express sent us the cheuque back.

Haven are saying that as far as they and their computer are concerned we have paid the 105 and all we owe is 32 pounds. We also have a conformation of booking letter stating that we have paid.

If haven say you have paid and you have £32 then go if you need the break and look at it as fate being kind or if you feel uncomfortable then do n't go.

Janstar · 08/04/2004 13:59

You have told Haven the truth so if they insist your holiday is booked, go, and enjoy it.

Kayleigh · 08/04/2004 14:03

If you have a confirmation from Haven saying you have paid. And they refuse to believe you haven't then leave it at that and go and enjoy yourselves.

Nutty - be warned, went on a Haven last September and it is very expensive (food in shop/booze in club house) and they do not let you take your own drinks/food into the bars. So if you plan to go out at night try and take a few kiddies bottles full of booze to hide it in. (Yes just like the School Discos, smuggling booze in!)

Nutcracker · 08/04/2004 14:28

The only thing i'm worried about is if we get there and they they discover that actually yes the cheque was cancelled. There could of been a delay in the express letting them know.

Galaxy - do you think the express would chase it up then ???

It's just weird that the express haven't notified haven that it's cancelled, as they wrote to us with the bounced cheque and said we had until the 1st April to pay up or it would be cancelled.
It's the 8th now, so i thought the express would of notified them by now.

id ring up haven two days before and say that you are just reconfirming your booking, that way your not going to turn up and find no accom set aside for you.
if they say its still confirmed then go, but make sure you take the letter from haven
go for it!! you do deserve it you know!!!

Nutcracker · 08/04/2004 22:18

Well we can't go. Dp had already cancelled the week off at work, and they said it is now too short notice to rebook it

oh Nutcracker, shame

JJ · 08/04/2004 22:22

Why don't you go without him? I'm not saying that he wouldn't be great there, but I've done holidays with my boys on my own and it's worked out really well.
