another am I being unreasonable thread

We're due at a family gathering at dh's mother's on Good Friday. She's dying to see ds. Last saw her February. But ds (9 months) is not very well ? has conjunctivitis and heavy cold and now antibiotics have given him upset tummy (haven't sorted out conjunctivitis either am taking him back to GP tomorrow).
Would it be unthinkable to cancel? MiL would be devastated. Have told her about conjunctivitis but she's not worried about catching it. Ds swings between being extremely unhappy and sometimes his normal cheery self so not sure if he's up to it...
Don't know what to do. Help?

Eddm, he might be better by then. I'd try to go I think but see how he is on the day and reserve the right (in advance) to cancel if he really isn't up to it. If he was just a bit off I'd take him I think but if he was really ill and needed to be in bed/at home then I'd stay put and cancel her. How old is he? If he's little and will just sleep etc (i.e. it won't make much difference where you are so you might as well be there as home) then I'd go anyway. Sorry to be a bit vague!

eddm, I agree with www, warn your mil that you may have to cancel as it just wouldn't be fair on your ds if he is feeling really poorly, but as www says, if you think your ds will sleep through it then maybe go but only if everyone who is going to be there knows about the conjuntivitis and doesn't mind!

I'd be tempted to go - but then that's because I find it really wearing being stuck at home with an off colour child all day.

Now if he is really, really miserable and unhappy due to his cold etc then yes I would stay home, but not if he is just a bit grumpy. The distraction of being somewhere else might do him some good too. And at the end of the day conjunctivitis and colds are not too bad (compared to say d&v).
