We moved into our current house over a year ago.

We have suddendly received in the last week or evidence of a bank account application and now a credit card in the name of the previous occupantant but with our address.

I am trying to get hold of the previous occupantants but without success. Unable to get hold of anybody at the credit card company and bank who can give me any info.

Whats the scam? Do these companies have fraud depts?

why are you trying to track them down?

call the banks / credit card and report it .. its their responsibilities .. yes they'll have fraud depts

it will not impact on you

if they are not using your name its not fraud per se.
How do you know its a bank account/credit card application? Did you open the amil?
Return all mail to sender with ADDRESSEE moved on it, that means banks will stop accounts

Just write a curt letter to the senders explaining the problem and giving the prev owners contact details that you have. Worth the price of a stamp I think and keep a copy to show you've done your bit.
I did something similar with a previous tenant from ours as she was getting red bailiff letters. It just saves you and them a lot of back and forth paperwork and hassle in future.

Also sign up to this for free to ensure you don't receive letters to the offending names (might have to go through it a few times if there are a few names).
