how do you get scratches off a dvd?????

My 3 year old neice decided to play with a dvd last night and has scratched it all, is there anyway of getting the scratches off?
Ive tried rubbing it with a cloth but that hasnt worked?????

there is a company called scratchbusters who can repair dvds from £3 IIRC,
