um, don't wear anything white (esp if it's furry). My big winter wedding mistake .

What is your budget and what do you look like?

Essentially, you need a sparkly party dress and killer heels. What a bummer

My SIL got married on New years Eve just gone and had a "black tie" wedding.

It was lovely - I wore a Monsoon evening - ish dress and Killer heels!! and the dress has been out and about for loads of other occassions - even better I got it in the Sale!!

Thanks for the replys, the bride in question wants all ladies in black dresses!!!! Long or short , she doesn't mind ,just black. .I dont have a bugdet, just need to find something that looks good. At the moment i,m a good size 14 ,but planning on losing a stone before xmas. I have trouble with dresses though as i have rather large boobs, so i always tend to stick to seperates. I havn't worn a dress since i got marrried 18years ago and was then weighting in at 8 stone. I thought about hiring a dress, wouldnt have a clue where to go , i live in bedfordshire ,so any idea please.

you don't have a budget? weh-hey

What I would do is wait until nearer xmas when all the party dresses start appearing in the shops and then pick something rather fab and sparkly (hopefully not from the same shop as the other guests).

if you don't want a dress, you could do e.g. a corset top and skirt - would look like a dress when it's on wouldn't it?

CarolinaMoon · 21/09/2006 08:38

how about this ?

CarolinaMoon · 21/09/2006 08:43

or this knee-length one - click on the thumbnail on the far right of the second row down. The one on the left of the third row is v nice too, but maybe not for the larger-of-nork.

KristinaM · 21/09/2006 08:46

not sure about the large boobs and halter necks......

I agree, you dont need to wear a dress, just a black top and skirt. Monsoon, debenhams and principles have nice stuff. You can get lots of monsoon stuff on ebay too.

jules, do you do strapless? ie do you have good shoulders?

Not sure how i feel about brides who dictate EXACTLY what the guests shoudl wear......sounds like her fantasy about everyone being in black except her in white

...or maybe she thinks that "black tie" actually means everyyone in black?????

Anyway i understand that you dont know her and you just want to look FAB. And not worry about the bridezilla

MrsBadger · 21/09/2006 08:48

Coast should always be the first port of call for anyone looking for a corset / skirt combo.
They have some great black things this season but their website is impossible to link to - go to Collections and have a scroll through. I especially like the corset /jacket/skirt combo with the yellow rose at the waist (jacket v handy if it's cold and/or you're not up for flashing upper arms).

CarolinaMoon · 21/09/2006 08:54

really?? don't they hold the boobs up? I thought strapless was the big no-no for large norks?

(am not speaking from personal experience here, having been a 34A pre-pg).

MrsBadger · 21/09/2006 08:54

oh, or if you do fancy a dress, the very last one on the Phase Eight page would look fantastic on curves.

MrsBadger · 21/09/2006 08:56

it's so much the support as the look of the thing - halterneck can make the top-heavy look even top-heavier.
I like halters as have petite norks and large arse - strapless looks ghastly on me as it makes my chest look tiny and my shoulders huge.

MrsBadger · 21/09/2006 08:57

[doh] that should read

it's not so much the support as the look...

CarolinaMoon · 21/09/2006 08:57

ooh, I didn't see that one MrsB - very nice

CarolinaMoon · 21/09/2006 08:58

I'd love to look top-heavy

jules27 · 26/09/2006 11:20

Thanks for all the replys. My shoulders are good ,but my days of wearing a srappless bra have gone, kristinaM, far to large even BRAMISSIMO don't have my size or rather doesnt hold them up . I love the dresses on phase eight, but again it will all depend on the sizing on the bust. I am dieting like mad and wont buy anything until nearer xmas. I will probably ene up going for seperates, as usual . How i,d love to have smaller boobs, but then thats another thread. I think the bide just wants to stand out from every one , certainly will if she is in white and all ladies are in black.
