Has anyone had an especially good/bad experience with them?

I find a lot of people don't bother updating their details any more - I'm thinking the novelty is wearing off.

It's also a bit annoying the way they suppress email addresses in personal details. At first, I thought it was just a filter for strings with @ symbols in, but now I see it won't even let you say "my email address is firstname lastname at domain dot com." The name gets completely wiped, making nonsense of what you have written.

ah ha! You dont want to pay your subs then?

southeastastra · 19/09/2006 13:24

i looked up my sister the other day and she had described herself as a pole dancer living the celebrity lifestyle, shocking. it's only a fiver isn't it to join?

ilovecaboose · 19/09/2006 13:24

I just went on there the other day to see how many people from my school were on there - nearly all of them surprisingly (I'm only 23). But lots of them ahven't updated for 2 or more years.

I put my email on but seperated the words so it worked fine. Its interesting but not enough to pay for at the moment.

ilovecaboose · 19/09/2006 13:26

hmm found out 3 or 4 of my classmates have had babys - wonder if they're on here (knew about at least 3 of them - we still have a reasonably active grapevine working)

UnquietDad · 19/09/2006 13:42

nah, not paying £7.50 for the privilege of occasionally getting an email! Not when you can do most of the stuff on there for free.

If the "contact" thing is only for members. I just wish they'd be up-front about it and ask people not to put email addresses in profiles. The way they do it at the moment seems a bit heavy-handed.

I thought it was quiet a fun website until I got an email through friends reunited from an old boyfriend! I really didn't want to chat to him so I ignored him for a bit but he kept hassling me, I paid the money just so I could tell him to f off!!
I then barred his emails through friends reunited. Haven't been on there since.

themoon66 · 19/09/2006 14:18

I wish I'd thought of putting something like 'lapdancer' instead of the boring old truth

themoon66 · 19/09/2006 14:20

My old boyfriend from school got in touch with me via FriendsReunite about 2 years ago. We still email and have a whinge about our respective teenagers. He has four DDs and I have DS and DD. We are good mates again now thanks to FR and he is coming over with his wife and kids soon for a big get together with mine.

PiratesHaveCheesyFeet · 19/09/2006 14:26

I wouldn't have found MN without Friends Reunited! GeorginaA was my best friend at primary school, she moved away and we lost touch. She contacted me via FR and eventually we found out we were both pg at the same time and she directed me here

Well done GA

I was able to find a long lost friend through Friends Reunited. That was the reason to join. Havent updated my sub since. I did take a peek the other week and was at how much the subs had gone up and thought 'sod that'.

LadyTophamHatt · 19/09/2006 19:55

I updated my profile the other day for the first time in yonks.

Prior to this update my profile read "Does anyone actually read these anymore...Does anyone actually give a shit where I am, what I;m doing and how I'm doing it with??"

Seashells · 19/09/2006 20:18

I found a long lost friend on FR, we emailed for a while then sort of ran out of things to say, and haven't bothered since. Also chatted to a boy who was in school with me right through from being 5 - 16, I never really knew him at school, but is a really nice bloke. Have had a number of ex boyfriends contact me through there too.
I don't pay the subs, I have my email on my profile, I just put my name at bla bla.

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 19/09/2006 20:25

You're allowed to put in a URL so if you have your own website or homepage you can leave contact details there. That's how I've been contacted by a couple of people.

tigertum · 19/09/2006 21:23

I made my internet-notive dad go and have a look at friend reunited with me. The only person he recognised was a very old friend of his that he hadn't seen in years. Unfortunatley, someone had updated the post to say that he had died. I think it upset him a bit. The guy had been a semi-famous poet and he then ended up reading hi obituary. They had been quite close as teenagers.

Second neg experience; In my year's bit on friend reunited someone logged in under the name of an unpopular girl and wrote a very hurtful and ficticous 'life notes'.

I suppose its good in its way and has the capacity to reunite long lots friends, but there is an element of showing off!

southeastastra · 19/09/2006 21:25

blimey yes showing off! one of my old mates put 'i am now travelling the world designing handbags and cannot wait for the day when i have children with my lovely husband'

Rhubarb · 19/09/2006 21:26

I wish the bloody website would stop sending me crappy emails! I went in to change my settings but I've forgotten my password and my username! I wouldn't care I only went on for dh when I was rounding up his mates for his 40th, I'm not on!

kid · 19/09/2006 21:38

I have my email address displayed on my profile on FR. It has spaces in it so maybe they haven't noticed, but its definately there.
