I would just go with it. I think it means she is taking pride in her own identity, and likes her name - I'm sure she'll grow out of it, but I think it's rather nice

ScummyMummy · 19/09/2006 12:21

lol- I love kids getting determined about their names. My little sister changed the spelling of her name to something phonetically bizarre aged 12 or so and stubbornly stuck to it for years and years. Go for it Lauren Jade.

misdee · 19/09/2006 12:22

dd1 did the same thing, every had called her Nikki for years, but she told us off, so we all call her Nicole now. occasionally nic.

LOL! My DS1 went through a phase like that!

My DS2, also 4, currently wants to be called Aiders MacMonkey which is causing great confusion all round.

Greensleeves · 19/09/2006 12:25

My 2yo currently insists on being called Grandad. I say "Hello XXX" and he replies "No, I'm Grandad. I'm not XXX, I'm Grandad." I say "Well, have you got a beard?" and he strokes his little chin and says "Yes, I've got a beard. I'm not XXX, I'm Grandad". It's very endearing but I hope he grown out of it

scummymummy - i remember a simialr phase when i was a teenager, my friends became Katii (previosuly Katy), Bekki (previosuly Becky), Cerey (previoulsy Ceri)and i became Katz!

ScummyMummy · 19/09/2006 12:29

lol katz.

nappyaddict · 19/09/2006 12:56

i remember the same aged ten i became holly then aged 12 it was holi then aged 16 it changed back to holly.

i think there's nothing wrong with calling her lauren jade if she likes it and you must like it if you named it her. my ds is called toby-jack and we always call him that. a few people have called him TJ so i make sure to point out i hate the abbreviation TJ and if they must shorten it then just to call him toby, but then most people start to call him toby jack.

My 15 yr old sister calls herself Elz and all her mates have done similarly bizarre things to their names (the only one I can remember off hand is Alibanana)

Lauren Jad is nowt really my sister's full name is a right mouthfull so I'm glad she didn't do the same thing

housemum · 19/09/2006 14:06

At least they are using their own names - my dd (age 3) occasionally comes up with, "I'm not Georgie I'm Minnie" - she thinks she is Minnie Mouse.

(Cringe - my mum told me that when I was at infant school I told everyone that my name was Elizabeth. - It's not even remotely like my first name, middle name or surname, nor is anyone in my family called Elizabeth. Sort of thing Mum drags into conversation when she hasn't embarassed me for a while... )

misdee · 19/09/2006 16:24

i dont mind her using her two names together, but it makes me laugh at her telling me o0ff for calling her 'just lauren'

Thats nothing, last year my DS (nearly 6) was insisting his middle name was either Glitter or Elvis

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 19/09/2006 20:31

LOL. I was Livvy until about 7, then I made everyone spell it Livi (probably with hearts above the i's ). Then by 10 I'd decided Livi was bleuurgh so it was just Liv after that.

nappyaddict · 20/09/2006 12:03

well my 4 yr old cousins are called sam thomas and max edwin. thomas happens to be sams fave out of thomas the tank so now max calls himself max emily as that his favorite!

onlyjoking9329 · 20/09/2006 12:32

well at least lauren jade is a nice name my DS is Elliot Joel but he has decided he wants to change his middle name to.....Percy and he is happy to tell everyone this
