How 'bad' is an old mattress?

In terms of SIDS. Want to use the old cotbed mattress for ds2 (4 months). It was ds1's and we bought it second hand, though it was barely used. What is the danger? Am going to order a new one, but it takes 4-6 weeks, and think he has outgrown the cradle, hence waking every hour (please god let that be the reason). Any suggestions?

Will be fine, IMO.

Am using DS1's mattress for DS2. He's asleep on it now.

Ok, might give it a clean and use it til new one arrives. Cheers hunker.

Bouj - fully intend to use cot mattress that dd2 has now for next one. Need a new basinette mattress - only cause I gave it away.

Hmm, am tempted to try it tonight - as the day wears on the thought of only 2 hrs sleep again tonight is not so appealing... Probably needs a clean though, has been under ds1's bed for six months! How are you getting on, eidsvold?
