Can I run in a 10k run with one month's training?

Or am I mad to consider it?
I got roped into running in a 5k "fun" run last weekend with two weeks notice to train. I am not fit and completely unathletic but managed to run (slowly) all the way.It was very hard going but I felt a great sense of achievement at the end.It was the furthest I have run in my life
Now I am considering doing a 10k run at the end of April. I have no ambitions to get a fast time, just to complete the course running most if not all the way.
Do you think it is possible and if so does anyone know of a sensible training programme I could follow?
Thanks.

that's great Dingle, very well done.

Dingle - hi, just replied on your other thread. you've got the running bug I think and there will be no stopping you now.

Twink - well done on the time. Don't worry too much about the faint, it was really hot today, there were a couple of ladies collapsed at the end of my race too. You obviously gave it your all.

I really enjoyed it today (especially after struggling at the Race for Life this year) it was damn hot but I started pretty close to the front and just had so much room! - got in my pace and it was great - no tendonitis either. I've had some New Balance runners but I've had to go back to my tatty Aasics as I just can't get on with them.

Well done Dingle & Luckymum ! Glad to hear you're getting past the fatigue McKenzie.

I reckon it was the hardest race I've ever done as me & heat don't get on unless I'm poolside on a sunlounger.

I've often gone dizzy at the end of races, particularly if I've done a mad sprint for the line but this time the world went black and bumped me on the nose

So any other race plans for any of you ?

I did the Flora too, but had to walk nearly the whole first km due to bottlenecks, plus a bit further on too, so I gave up trying to do a good time . But I just scooted round the rest and enjoyed it. It took me 40 mins , but not really accurate due to the chaos in my section of runners! I did speak briefly to a REALLY nice lady, who inspired me to keep training. I think next yr I'll take ds in the jogger, if allowed. It'd be his first run! Surely it cant be against the rules, as its the same principle as wheelchairs. Am now looking out for another race, so suggestions please. Dont think I'm back in 10km shape yet, but a 5km or 7km would be good.

Well done Ixel. have a look at the Runners World website . You can do an event search for any distance - it includes fun runs too.
