PIL just had one. they scrubbed and cleaned and tidied for a few days b4 hand (they live in permantn clutter due to fostering diff age children and needed a supply in of toys clothes etc)As long as ur clutter isn;t in the way of exits or fire extinguishing things then u should be ok.

Is this for being a CM or similar? We had a home one the other day and it was great. Lots of helpful suggestions and observations plus the children clambered all over the fire engine (I wanted to clamber all over the firemen myself but dh was there ) I would have thought that clutter would only be a problem if it blocked escape routes or was too near heaters etc.

no, it's just a home one. ds decided the other day it would be a good idea to burn the sofa with a lamp.so we have arranged for the fire brigade to come and do a check, install some smoke alarms and talk to him about how dangerous fire is.
Did they come in the fire engine then? thought they'd just turn up in acar! ds will be thrilled if they come in an engine!

ooooooh that kind of check! Just make sure there is nothing blocking any exits and that all your windows open and all your doors close. Ideally you should have something to put out a fire in your kitchen too as well as smoke alarms dotted about, ty for reminding me btw i need to check our batteries

satine · 13/09/2006 10:54

Not only did they come in the fire engine, they had a full crew (in case they were called out!). I would recommend a home check to everyone. They'll even fit new smoke alarms for free if you don't have enough! And your neighbours will be beside themselves with curiosity!

alexsmum · 13/09/2006 10:57

yes they are going to install the alarms!

i know that they are going to say something about us not having any internal doors downsatirs.

oooh-how exciting! a fire engine! did they wear those nice tight blue t-shirts?
