I was thinking of doing some kind of voluntary work, maybe just a few hours a week but not sure whats out there. Has anybody got any experience they could share please?

Wildlife trusts are good. A lot of charities need help too. How about hearing children read in infants school?

Find your local volunteers bureau

Try to do something that will further your career if possible e.g. management experience (directors/trustees/steering groups useful)

Have a think about what things interest you and what skills you have or want to develop, doing somthing you enjoy means you get more out of it yourself as well as the fact you are likely to give more too. There is such a variety it willbe helpful to find a voluntee bureau as suggested.

I used to volunteer at a kids hoilday centre. It was great fun even though the main part of the job was cleaning. I got to help out on activities too. I did this as a teenager and I think it made a big difference when applying for jobs.

I also worked in Oxfam, again this helped when applying for retail jobs and I helped to run a seasonal shop in the church and helped out in the christmas cafe. I also did a stint in a shoppers creche.
