Help, info needed. Lost forms re kids' passports. Right, we're going away in October, will we get them back if we send off now? Secondly, do people have to countersign etc with kids and what if it's a genuine passport booth photo but makes my DD look like a serial killer (dark shadows under just discernable eyes).Info neede please.

use the PO check passport service - for a small fee they go through the passport and photo for you - and they come back quicker too (supposedly)

WHat I did with my ds (only about 6 weeks or so b4 going on holiday) was take it to the postoffice to do the 'check and send' service.

I think you have to pay a couple of quid for it but it was worth it as they checked the form and the photos to make sure it was correct. They send it off for you as well and we got ds's back in a couple of weeks.

Yes, you need countersignature for kids' first passport and they are particular about photos - check the guidelines. We had problems with ds2's passport - in one photo his teeth were showing (not allowed), his head wasn't in the centre (also not allowed).

I had DD's photo taken in a passport photo booth, the passport office sent it back saying it was no good. I took her to a chemist who done the photos for me, they were returned too as they were no good. We sent our 3rd set of photos, they ended up using the 1st set that we sent!
As you can see, its worth getting the photo checked before sending them off to save wasting time sending photos backwards and forwards.

We did the post office check and send for our dd it cost DH £7 and it still came back because it was wrong!

I got dd1's passport back in a week, which was pretty impressive! Do check the website as it has information of fees, etc. which wasn't on my printed form. You can in fact apply for the passport online.

helsi · 10/09/2006 21:24

we go away on 6 oct and sent dd's application off 2 weeks ago - got it back Friday just gone.

IdrisTheDragon · 10/09/2006 21:26

I think DD's passport came back within a week. We used the check-and-send thing at the PO.

You need a countersignatory, but they need to have known you for two years (and they say that the photo is a reasonable likeness of the child).

some photo shops that do passport photos say that if they are refused by the passport agency as long as you have receipt/letter from passport agency they will redo them free of charge...
for children 5 or under the 'rules' are only guidelines so don't worry too much

We got our 2nd lot of photos done for free at the chemist.
