Do you think this is tasteless, or am I being sensitive?

This is REALLY REALLY silly but it wound me up a bit.

I was reading chat magazine (i know i know) and there is this story in it, and you know how in these magazines they do photos to accompany the story.
Anyway in this story this woman took an overdose and there is a photo of her (posed obviously) with a handful of pills putting one into her mouth. This really really upset me, I think it is really tasteless and offensive, we all know what ODing looks like do we really need to 'see' that pile of pills
I have ODed myself and it just reminded me, and urgh i just thought it was completely tasteless.

Am i being stupid? I am tempted to write to chat to complain.

Sorry - but I look at these mags and wonder exactly how much is true ..... bit like lots of the "Trisha" guests seem staged to me ....

IMO - "IF" that woman had OD'd ... I very much doubt she would be staging that photo ...

It's all about what sells ......

IMO ... ( in case I upset .... )

stupidgirl · 26/03/2004 23:25

Hmm, it does seem a bit strange, if she really did OD to be prepared to 'relive' it for the sake of a photo opportunity.

Having not seen it, it's difficult to comment, but if you feel strongly then by all means complain. If it's important for you then you should, maybe it will help you.

stupidgirl · 26/03/2004 23:25

Sorry, that sounded really patronising, it wasn't intended to be, I hope you understand what I mean.

JennH, I haven't seen it either, but from what you say, you have my vote.

I'm not sure but I think that when photo people like that, it's not actually them they are character actors.

They actually had a character actor on the NY Graham Norton show this evening.

I always wondered if it was really them. I agree though, they never print anything nice, it's always heartache.

I buy Glamour mag as I am trying to spend a bit more time pampering. Just trying not to get caught up in the "we really are this perfect" models.

JennH · 26/03/2004 23:48

No not a character model, they use them for their fiction stories this is a 'real' story

Oh, well I can't see why the woman would want to do it then.

I think it's really a difficult thing to deal with in the first place. I know someone that attemps it every now and then (I can only say more for attention that actually wanting to) and I would hate it if they done some stupid picture.

WideWebWitch · 27/03/2004 08:04

Yes, it's tasteless but if you buy those mags, this is what you get Are you sure the picture wasn't posed by a model? I'm not sure I'd bother complaining, just wouldn't buy the mag again.
