I make up songs all the time and get paid for it as well!

Made up songs rock as they are personal to you and your child and what is happening in your life at that moment, using well known tunes is a great way of remembering it for a repeat performance.

I'm impressed that you are all making up songs. Because in real life nobody will admit it.

sandcastles · 05/03/2007 02:32

debster, we used to do the 'Smelly Bum' one too. Not so much anymore as dd out of nappies!

KathyMCMLXXII · 05/03/2007 18:03

"Rock a bye baby in Mummy's arms
Mummy is nice, which is one of her charms
And she is pretty and very bright
And she can sleep all through the night."

(I need the positive reinforcement, you see.)

Also (to the tune of Drunken Sailor)
"What shall we do with a grizzly baby
What shall we do with a grizzly baby
What shall we do with a grizzly baby
Early in the morning..."
Verses incl. 'Tickle her tummy until she giggles', 'Turn her upside down till she stops crying' and anything else we make up on the spur of the moment.

PMSL @ 'I'm just a baby whingebag' and the 'Don't cry for me Argentina' one!

And (insert ds2's 2-syllable name for XXX, sung to the tune of the Nwe World Symphony)

xxx here, xxx there
xxx, everywhere
xxx here, xxx there
xxx everywhere

xxx small, xxx tall
xxx best of all
xxx stars, xxx moon
xxx silver spoon

xxx here, xxx there
xxx, everywhere
xxx here, xxx there
xxx everywhere

and various other nonsensical verses (God, this is quite embarassing really isn't it )

bellarosa · 05/03/2007 22:24

(x for baby name)

Baby x , x dont cry
sun's shinin in your sky
clouds pass up above,
Baby x I'm in love

baby x, x dont cry
swallows swoop accross your sky
night light coming soon
a rising silver x moon

etc etc

(And many more verses all jumbled in my head right now but when i'm singing to her it flows..)

My songs currently all feature poo and wee, sung to my 2yo.

Kookaburra sits and does a wee
merry merry king of the wee wee he.
poo, kookaburra, poo, kookaburra,
wee you must must wee.

and

What do you do if you want to do a poo
in an English Country Garden? (etc, that's an old Scout one I think).

nct73 · 10/03/2007 19:29

to tune of Waltzing Matilda:

I know a baby, a pretty baby,
Her name is xxx, she's my precious girl.
She cries, and she wees and she farts and she shits,
It's very lucky we love her to bits.

filthymindedvixen · 10/03/2007 19:32

to the tune of Bobby Shaftoe

Little - - isn't happy,
has he got a dirty nappy?
take it off and make it snappy
stinky little - -.

Little --'s tall and thing,
nut brown eyes and pointy chin,
but who would ever marry him
When he's a stinky - -.

Ok, ok, it's no Novello award winner but it made us smile at the time

McDreamy · 10/03/2007 19:33

Emily Emily,
sweeter than orange squash is she,
oh my Emily,
Emily you're mine

filthymindedvixen · 10/03/2007 19:36

And at bedtime, to the tune of Eidelwiess

''Time for bed, sleepyhead,
night-time dreams are call-ing,
Rest your head, sleepyhead,
slumber softly til morning.
Just close your eyes and then drift away,
drift away til morning,
Close your eyes, babypies,
wake when a new day is dawning''

Sorry, this seemed lovely 9 years ago. Now I feel my gorge rising..

frangipan · 11/03/2007 18:22

CatIsSleepy · 21/09/2007 18:21

weird that this OLD thread was thought of twice in the last fornight!

Bodkin · 04/10/2007 20:54

What a lovely thread.

Whilst pacing round the living room trying to pacify a squawking DD2, me and DD1 have been singing (to a choon I think I've made up)

We're walking round the room with a crying baby
I think she's going to drive us crazy
Walking round the room with a screaming baby
Will she ever stop
Well maybe, maybe

repeat ad nauseum until screaming has stopped.

Also, for DD1 (sort of to the tune of Python's "I like Chinese")

I love my Nelly
Although her feet are smelly
She's very very cute and she likes to eat fruit
Cos she's my little Nelly

I love Nelly Rose
I love her fingers and her toes
She's very very sweet but she's got cheesy feet
Cos she's my little Nelly

ChorusLine · 04/10/2007 20:57

I went to the barbers shop
to get Sam's hair cut off
When i got there
He said where's youe hair
He said i don't care
I wanna look like my grandad

Rachmumoftwo · 04/10/2007 21:05

In the bath (in a Cockney accent if you can)-

We've got load of bubbles,
Loads and loads of bubbles,
Bubbles here,
Bubbles there,
We've got bubbles everywhere.
Loads and loads of bubbles,
Loads and loads of bubbles,
On your knees,
On your toes,
In your hair,
And on your nose.
We've got loads of bubbles....

it goes on, gettinglouder and louder.
