12 weeks till I'm 50 - what should I do before then?

So I will reach my half-century 12 weeks today. Am wondering what I should do to prepare myself! I feel somewhat inspired to lose the spare tyre that is developing, and hit my fifties in as good a shape as possible, but what else? I am doing my dissertation for my M.Sc. and am leaving my job in 2 weeks to set up my own business, so am all set for a great future!

Hey, yes, me me! Gonna be 50 at about the same time and also thinking the same. Is it really too late to turn myself into a goddess, I keep wondering? I have also recently quit my job and set up my own business.

BlessThisMess · 02/06/2014 18:56

Yay, well done! Am definitely never going to be a goddess, but am trying to do daily arm exercises to tone up a bit, and could do with a make-up makeover too Grin

Yes, I really do not want to be fat and 50. I have just over a stone to lose. I know that I can probably just give up carbs and lose it, but I find it so difficult. Especially as we are going through a period of stress.

May I ask what your new business is? PM me if you don't want to say here.

I've just qualified as a nutritional therapist so will be setting up my practice. What's yours? Is there a fab fifties thread or topic somewhere?

We should start one! Well done on qualifying, that sounds really interesting. I have done office work all my adult life and have just given it up to start a beauty-related business.

I did wonder if I was a bit old to embark on a new career, though, so it's good to see somebody else doing the same.

I will be 50 soon too- I would love to get fit and more in shape but between working long hours and looking after teenagers I find reading MN with a glass of wine much more appealing than going to the gym.

I don't want to end up diabetic and unable to find clothes that fit though so I must bite the bullet soon.

Hi Cerisier, let's do this together! I am so tempted by the carb-free diet. My hairdresser was obese this time last year and by the end of the summer she was a size 14. All she did was cut out carbs and power walk for 30 mins a day on the treadmill.

Plan a massive party?

Cerisier · 04/06/2014 11:51

Hi Malibu wow that's an amazing story.

I am certainly up for some mutual encouragement. I don't seem to care enough in some ways- but I keep thinking about it so I think I do care. The big birthday milestone is making me think this is a good time to actually do something.

MalibuStacy · 04/06/2014 13:25

Yep. And the good thing about this carb-free lark is you don't have to give up wine!!!

BlessThisMess · 04/06/2014 22:03

Hmm, well I would recommend low carb but not no carb (which is v v difficult anyway). Half your plate/meal should be veg.

I don't fancy a big party. Am going to have a spa day with a bunch of women friends and a London theatre trip with the family.

I can't say a spa day would appeal (I would rather gouge my eyes out) but the theatre trip sounds nice. No idea what I'll do. Maybe a drinks do at home for friends, maybe a nice meal out.
