How old is the baby? Too old for one of those pop up ones?

NotQuiteCockney · 01/09/2006 15:08

Travel cot rental generally ends up costing at least half of what actually buying one costs. I'd look at Asda etc and see if you can find one cheap, or ask local friends if you can borrow one? (I've loaned mine out a few times this way.)

I was thinking that NQC, or ebay?

Or you could look at the local small ads - they often seem to have rarely used travel cots.

Buy a second hand one then sell it on afterwards? I doubt you'd lose any money on it.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/09/2006 16:38

I'd ask on netmums or similar? You could probably borrow one and return it with a bottle of wine or similar.

Our local NCT branch has a v active mailing list where people do these sorts of things.

lexiemum · 01/09/2006 21:39

put a request out in the wanted section on here and on of the travel ones - am sure someone lent highchair etc to someone else who was coming to their town on holiday.

the nct sales also start up this month - so might be worth a check to see if a local one is one.

or the carboots on sunday

Freecycle! Google for your local branch.

You can't do 'loans' but you can place 'wanted' ads. Although I think you have to do an 'offer' first, so it might not be in time.

We get rid of all our unwanted, non-ebayable stuff on it - including a spare travel cot only last month...sorry!

Failing that Lidl & Asda were both doing them for £25 or so last summer.

Alternatively, if the baby is young enough - when ds was 4 months dh took him to visit MIL overnight. She'd ordered a travel cot & it didn't arrive - so ds slept cosily in an opened out family size suitcase, base padded with blankets.
