Wedding evening only invitation - what present?

Been invited to an evening only wedding party on saturday. People I vaguelly know through work, its just for me, not with a partner so I plan to text people from work who'll be there all day and get one of them to meet me outside so I dont walk in like a nobbynomates!

I asked whether they had a gift list and they said they would rather have money in a card. How much does a reasonably hard up person have to give? (The party is all for people who work on pretty near minimum wage - its not a grand posh thing, most people there are on 8-10 grand a year at a supermarket so not London posh by any means).

Any help gratefully received - I need to know how much to give without being mega stingy!

What about getting together with people from work (who are attending) and pooling your funds and putting it into one card?

Rojak · 01/09/2006 12:02

Cat64's said it before me!

lilibet - is your wedding in Cardiff?

cat64 - great suggestion - wish I had thought of it sooner, not in work now as on maternity leave so I cant organise it.

Liking the £10 and a bottle of wine idea though MamaG

Fraid not - we are in Wigan

I might just take a prettily-wrapped bottle of something unusual (and unpriceable) instead of the money. But I'm quite tight like that
