Is anyone else about to embark on potty training in the near future, and dreading it?! As soon as my eldest two go back to school next week I am going to try it with dd2, but I am not relishing the thought!! TBH, it has been such a long time since I tackled potty training I am at a loss as to where to start!! Just wondered if anyone elses dc was due to start and if we could post tips, ideas, frustrations etc to each other. Do let me know!!

I think there are a lot of these threads flying about Bomper, but I have just potty trained my 25 mth old ds,so am a fresh graduate.

My tips?

1} Big high comfy potty with removable middle

2} Once nappies are off, they're off for good

3} Over the top praise every time they do something (don't believe in stickers or chocs though-parental approval more reinforcing

4} Showing the child a lot of 'grown up' toilet action (lol) in the lead up to the big day

5} No pull ups. Yuck.

6}Prepare for a few days at home and asking at least every 30 mins.

You mean you haven't seen the numerous cod potty training boot camp threads?

Good luck... just remember if I could do it with the DTs then you can do it with your singleton.

I'm sure others will be along soon.

Remember... lots of praise (and smarties). So glad those days are gone!

Thanks chaps!! I am a bit worried about her occassional daytime naps, did you put a nappy or a pull up on for those, or just bite the bullet and keep knickers on?

Nappy for naps at present but am phasing out.(Use cloth nappies though which are helpful in that the kid feels wet.)

For naps I put down care mats. Worked really well.

I think i have nearly cracked it with Dd, she is 2.3.
I have had a potty lying around at home for ages, i never made her sit on it, just left her knickerless and she got the hang of it herself really.

She has been dry in the day at home for a while now, and this week i started taking her out in pants! we had one accident.

I bought one of those little folding potties, with throwaway liners for when we are out, its great, would def reccomend.
My friend got stuck carrying a poo round a shopping center looking for a loo to empty it in!!

Good luck.
