Cars - MOT?/Service

Right girls I need some advice!!

My car went in for a service 7 weeks ago - 40,000 mile one which cost me about 750 considering needed some stuff doing to it.

Took it in for an MOT last week - phoned up to ask whether they had done it and hey ho they had lost it - someone had not told them they had received it and had taken the keys home so it was not MOT'd on friday as booked and I had to cope without a car!! - they were not at all apologetic!!

Anyway they have phoned me and said that it has failed its MOT on exhaust corrosion, 2 tires and something to do with the headlights!!

Considering I only had it serviced 7 weeks ago do you think this is a bit of a piss take - effectively all this has coincidentaly gone wrong in the last 7 weeks or they sent me away after the service with what was effectively an un-roadworthy car!!

I also took out MOT insurance, which they deny, although they took the £35 off me and it is on my invoice but the insurance miraculously does not cover anything that needs doing on it to pass its MOT!!

Would you complain?? Am I being grouchy cause I pregnant??

Just seen on invoice that it says rear silencer rusty - does this mean the exhaust???

They should definately have picked up on the tyres at the service - I'm sure that in 7 weeks they can't have changed that much!

I'd tak it to another garage if you can - get a second opinion. They sound like they're trying it on.

Yes, I'd definately complain - nothing to do with you being pregnant - they probably just think you're an easy target. Garages are such a stressful experience - if only there were some run by women somewhere - that'd be much better!

My God Twinkie, that is appalling! I get wound up very easily by garages/servicing/MOT type stuff - it seems their mission in life is to rip us off.
Is this a main dealership or a small independent garage? If it is a main dealership you need to shout about it from the rooftops - if it is a small independent you should still shout but it may not get you anywhere.
They should certainly have pointed out at your last service that the tyres were getting low and exhausts do not corrode in 7 weeks.
Sorry I haven't given any constructive advice but I am hopping mad on your behalf and I sympathise wholeheartedly.

Twinkie - just seen your second post - yes, the silencer is a part of the exhaust - I think it's a box like bit near rhe back of it. If your silencer has a hole in it that's when your car starts sounding like a dragster!

Oi! Lay off the mechanics, my dh is one AND its a family business that has been going for over 30 years and they have the same customers from then. So ner ner ner.

Depends on what service you had what they would pick up, think you can have different types (?) but then I only pretend to listen to dh and just nod occasionally when he is waffling about his day.

They sound a bit of a dodgy gaff though, keeping your car etc, you would have got a lift home with my firm, they pick you up and everything
