Leftover stamps

I've got about 10 1st class stamps left in one of those books you get.
Can I still use them even though they are worth less than it costs to send a small letter now?They still say 1st after all.
Shall I stick two on and hope for the best?

You used to be able to use old 1st class stamps after the price went up in the good old days before all this nonsense - 1st class is 1st class - people used to stock up before a price rise if they sent a lot of mail.

If there is still a standard 1st class (is there? I am lost!) then just stick one on and post as normal.
