I have this really annoying thing where a line of text appears either twice - at the bottom of one page and the top of the next - or not at all. It appears on the screen but not when I print it. I think I cut and pasted some of this text - possibly from a web page. I've tried re-typing it but it doesn't seem to work - any ideas?

When you say it doesn't appear when you print it, do you mean it is printing correctly (i.e. once) or not appearing at all?

I would change the View from Page Layout to Normal - it might be appearing "twice" because it's repaginating in Page Layout view (first thing that sprang to my mind anyway!)

it could be that the website has some formating that the text is holding onto?

try format menu?

when I print it doesn't appear at all. I agree it might have got some strange formatting in there. Anyone know what the Microsoft Word equivalent to Word Perfect's "reveal codes" fuction is?

Highlight the text and - on the Styles dropdown list on the formatting toolbar - click "Remove formatting"

sorry, should have said "Clear Formatting", not remove

thanks Molesworth - but I'm probably being exceptionally thick - is the styles dropdown menu to the left of the box that tells you what font you're using? because mine doesn't seemt o give me a choice to remove formatting - just a choice or normal and various heading styles

That's the one - "Clear Formatting" should be at the very top of the list - what version of Word are you using?

Other option is to open Notepad, cut and paste the offending text into it, then cut and paste back into Word, that way the formatting should be eliminated

There's a show/hide codes icon on your toolbar, looks like a back to front P.
