If so, can you help me?
Our PC keeps freezing, it usually happens in Windows media player or if we are in photos. It happens occasionally when i'm on, and quite a lot when DH is on( we have seperate user account)> When we click on something nothing happens, the screen freezes and the cursor sometimes turns into a wee egg timer shaped thing. We end up having to log ourselves off then back on again. The mouse has been playing up, and goes all over the place when it shouldn't.. i.e you will be looking at something and the cursor disappears off the bottom of the screen and appears somewhere else. New mouse and keyboard ordered, but just wondering if it's something more sinister?

DH de-fragged it last night, and when he finished he went onto WMP and it froze again. I will mention a maintenance disk to him! Just don't want to have to take it to a PC repair shop and pay money to get it looked at, especially with hols coming up!

ours used to freeze and we had to get a new fan

It could be that you have a lot of operations running or something is slowing it up. Assume you've done the usual virus scan? Try scanning with AdAware and Spybot as well.

try this if using Windows XP.......
First try and clear up your computer by going to start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disc Cleanup. Follow the instructions and it will clear all temporary and unneeded folders/items.
Then try this website for an online scan
ewido

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 for free here
spybot (dont worry about donating money 2 them, its a free service)

and download Adaware se here
Adaware

when theyve downloaded, scan your computer (but run them one at a time) and hopefully they'll find if there are any problems. Also if you don't already update via the microsoft website, go here windows update
If the problem continues, visit the website for whoever makes your computer, and see if they have any patches/fixes for your specific model....Good Luck

Thanks Mrsaek. We already have adaware, and I know we get windows updates. I shall ask Dh about the patches thing. like i said it only seems really bad when we use media player, or if we go into the my pictures or documents folders.

Also have a look at Window Washer to clean up your system.
