I wouldn't buy it now no, he will grow. Or buy it slightly too big for him?

Don't buy it now - they grow so fast! And M & S and proper uniform shops will have it in all year round anyway. It's more exciting getting it just before needing it too - otherwise it'll sit around and just feel old by the time it's worn if that makes sense?!

I've got dd's. I put it away in a carrier bag in a high cupboard 'cos she wants to play dressing-up with it! But I'm hoping that she will grow, rather than hoping that she won't. I got size 3-4 which seems to be the smallest available. The t-shirts will be ok but I expect I'll still have to take the trousers up.

Travelling to M&S is a pain, and I imagine the "proper uniform shops" are expensive (and wouldn't know where to find one).

god, i dont even know if DD1's school has a uniform. i wont get the details until October so was planning to wait until then. also want DD1 to come with me to get her used to the idea etc...

I'd only get it now if you need special fabric - ie cotton! trousers are particularly difficult to find in anything other than polyester
