We have one coming over for the day tomorrrow. No idea what a 10 year old is like so, what will keep him occupied/will he enjoy doing for the day - will he be too old to enjoy going to the park?

Most 10 year olds love the park, ball, PS2, bike ride,

might like cooking or drawing.

they are prety easy imo

thanks beetroot. what about conversation? - i'm very bad at knowing what level to pitch it at for children above dd's age (7mths) and below about the age of 18!!!

just ask him what he likes, that should get a conversation going. he might be mad on dr who, then you won't get a word in !

some talk all the time, some don't say boo to a ghost. Football might be a good starter, if he is into it. or the simpsons?

Runescape.com

Maple.com (need downloading)

battleon.com

Mine still likes painting, modelling and making food.

definitely runescape, sport, Dr Who, balls of any sort, park fine, sports magazine from the paper shop, or Simpsons is usually a good bet, agree with Beetroot.

My 10 year old son likes Dr Who, The Simpsons, Yu-Gi-Oh!, juggling, playing on his Nintendo DS, reading Alex Ryder, Harry Potter, Lemony Snickett etc, skateboarding, looking after his pets. He likes cooking - and eating! He also likes little children, and loves to play with his 2 year old cousin. You could always go to the park, then back via the newsagents and let him choose a magazine.

who is he?
your nephew
friends son

are you looking after him yourself or will parents be there?
is he staying overnight or just for the day?

nikkie · 18/08/2006 19:17

LilyMae-I'm getting worried now, I like the Simpsons, Doctor who, Alex Ryder, Harry Potter, Lemony Snickett
(Just don't want to be grown up I think!)

Lilymae8 · 18/08/2006 19:21

Nikkie - Actually me too! It's great to have two DSs, so I can pretend I'm into these things for their benefit - especially theme parks!!

I teach a lot of 10 year old boys. All very different I'm afraid.

I'd do what you normally do, so push your baby on the swings and see if he hangs around you, or goes on the park and take it from there.
