have i heard right??..are these not allowed because a minor may not be able to open in case of emergency??

i have three 'childsize' windows upstairs which im going grey over and i cant find any catches that go on upvc, just wood, but cousin(builder) tells me theyre not allowed anymore anyway??

our house is about 13 years old and all the windows have locks on them

EvesMama · 14/08/2006 15:18

i mean the tyoe were you can only open the window so far to prevent anyone falling out?..similar to those you put on kitchen cupboards?..have seen them for wood windows but theyre not suitable for upvc?

Why aren't they suitable for UPVC - if you can drill them into the frame of a wood window I can't see why you couldn;t into the casing of a UPVC one - as long as you didn't drill near the galss I would have thuoght it would have been fine.

??no specifically said 'not for use on upvc'?..maybe wouldnt 'grip' as well as wood???

we are just about to get some from here
jackloc cable restrictors
(scroll to bottom and look at 'Jackloc')

have not tried to fit them yet but our builder thinks there will be no probs with UPVC windows
the site has lots of other catches as well
HTH

NB your cousin is right in that this kind of thing shouldn't be fitted to windows that are designated fire escape routes, but unless you're in a loft room that has one of those special fire-escape Veluxes near the floor you're probably alright.
