we've been invited to a party to celebrate a friends 40th,but what present to take, any ideas? something witty would be good but i just can't think of anything!

How about doing something like this

A magnifying glass with a light for reading menus.

One of the best wedding presents we were given was a box of six two-glass bottles of Veuve Cliquot. We opened them before going out on wedding anniversaries, birthdays and dh smuggled one into hospital after the birth... Not something you would ever splash out on for yourself but it was lovely to have them when you wouldnt drink a full bottle. Would be good for a 40th also I think.
