Do any of you wise mn-ers have any good/bad comments on this car? It's the odd looking one which seats 6 people (3 separate seats in the front and the back, middle seat in both rows folds away). Have 2 kids at the moment but ideally would like 3, so with a view to our present car not being big enough to take 3 kids in the back, what do you think of the Multipla?

We looked at this car, but decided against it as the boot isn't that big. We have a dog and wanted space for a dog and a pram, and this would have been one without the other. Ended up with a Citroen Xara Picasso (boring I know) which will seat 3 child seats if necessary if the back. Or one adult comfortable between 2 seats. Our 5 yr old is in a simple booster seat no and we could fit one of these, a lightweight 2nd stage seat (booster style with a back) and a baby seat.

aloha · 12/03/2004 12:34

Ooh, I don't think the Citroen is boring at all! In fact I hope we will buy one on Saturday (second hand). How do you find it? I am v excited.
Have a friend who loves her Multipla more than her children But dh won't consider it because he says it is ugly. It's won lots of awards, I think.

Coddy · 12/03/2004 12:37

think of parking - it is quite wide

Its lovely inside
the engines are quite small

Crunchie · 12/03/2004 13:02

aloha, we do like our car, had a scenic before and there are some things I liked better about the scenic and some things I like better about the picasso. We bought ours nearly 2 ysa ago 2nd hand - it was a yr old diesl with 30,000 miles on the clock, so we got a good price. I was made redundant so we used all my pay off, as we had had nice company cars before and wanted a nearly new car if poss. We have had no problems with it, fuel ecomomy is brilliant, space inside is great, but it feels a bit light and plasicky at times. The Multipla was great inside, but a pig to park - too wide for a lot of supermarket car park spaces so you have to park miles away, and the boot was too small. I am happy with the Picasso, and we are planning to keep it until it dies as we can't afford another car.

noddy5 · 12/03/2004 13:03

We went to ireland for new year and my cousin had one Full of kids v comfy and spacious!

aloha · 12/03/2004 13:14

Do you know if it rates well on safety? The scenic was our alternative choice but we think the Picasso looks nicer and seems to have a little more room inside.

LIZS · 12/03/2004 13:15

The Scenic 7 seater is just arriving on forecourts over here. Not sure whether/when it will reach UK yet.

Twinkie · 12/03/2004 13:20

What about a Zafira - they are lovely - my friend has one - I think nicer than the picassos - but then my x2b has one of those so that taints my view!!!

My childminder has a megane and she raves about it too!!

Coddy · 12/03/2004 13:21

i do too

aloha · 12/03/2004 13:24

Zafira is a bit bigger than the Picasso I think - we don't need seven seats. Am I wrong? Coddy, what do you have?

Twinkie · 12/03/2004 13:28

Don't think any bigger in actual dimensions with regards to parking and you can take seats out or fold them down to have more room in rest of the car!!

Crunchie · 12/03/2004 14:49

Zafira is much bigger in terms of driving than the picasso. We test drove it and personally thought it was expensive and a bit of a tank. I prefered the Picasso. In safety terms the scenic is better - renaults do very well on this - but we found a better deal for a picasso.

Aloha the picasso is certainly bigger inside, you cannot fit 2 car seats and and adult comfortably in the back of a scenic. You can in a Picasso. Like I said it's negative points are it is a little plastiky, everyone has one and the visibility for parking is shite.

aloha · 12/03/2004 15:27

Oops, my parking skills are v poor. Never mind. I actually like the way Picassos look but am reassure they are bigger than Scenics but not too tank like to drive. We hired a Zafira for a holiday recentlly and liked it but it seemed really big and scary to drive (not v feminist thing to say, I know). Thanks all for comments!

spacemonkey · 12/03/2004 15:29

I've heard the multipla is good but it is the ugliest car in the history of cars!

LIZS · 12/03/2004 17:13

crunchie

Sorry to disagree, but I've travelled pretty comfortably between 2 car seats (2nd stage and booster seat or infant and second stage) in rear of our Scenic !

Crunchie · 12/03/2004 17:19

Lizs OK your bum must be smaller than mine!!!

Coddy · 12/03/2004 17:23

the zafiras usp is the 7 seats

it is fantastic if you and another mUm go out ona trip

wouldnt say thre car looks great but drives nippilt and is very versatile

MABS · 12/03/2004 17:42

am on my second multipla - totally love them. Yeah they look wierd but you don't see it when you are inside. Also had a scenic and hated it. I'm crap at parking but they multipla is 'easy' as you are higher and there is so much glass that the visibility is great.

LIZS · 12/03/2004 18:23

lol Crunchie

kando · 12/03/2004 19:05

Thanks for the replies ladies. So the general concensus seems to be it's a good car, if a little on the ugly side(!), but on the down side, it's a bit wide for normal parking spaces. Oh well, I'm rubbish at parking anyway ...! Think we may take one out for a test drive and see how it "feels".

OP posts:
KatieMac · 12/03/2004 20:27

I looked at it earlier this year but didn't like the middle seat in the front - much too close to the controls (so I bought the Uylesse instead)

SofiaAmes · 12/03/2004 22:45

kando, we test drove one a few years ago and loved it. The diesel was a bit sluggish. I even think it looks good (as my mother quotes me in latin,....no accounting for taste). In the end we needed more than 6 seats (had another child) and decided that it was a tad too wide for london and all the width restrictions and tight supermarket parking. Otherwise, when I researched it (including stopping people at lights as asking what they thought), everyone who had one, loved it.

eyelash · 21/03/2004 19:29

OMG - we bought one today. I am so excited as I have wanted one for a couple of years. We can pick it up on Saturday. btw I love the fact it is a bit quirky:0

Davros · 21/03/2004 21:54

I like them to because they're quirky also really good visibility. Went in a taxi one in Rome and was really excited (sad). A friend with 4 kids has one and loves it.
