Big Bubble Formula anyone?

Can I be alone in being disappointed and feeling ripped off at the standard of bubble mixture these days?
I mean me and DS1 went out to get some bubbles, I paid 45p a pot and the 'Super Bubbles' we brought home were frankly watery and insipid. I was unable to produce the big rainbowy orbs my boy was shrieking for.

OK scientists and practical parents out there, you must know how to make bubble mixuture at home, we make play-do, is it glycerine and soap or tallow or toadstools or enchanted pixie spittle? ... it can't be that difficult, does any one know?

Much olibged

Really must get out more, but these things are very important to a nearly 3 year old.

elc bubble mixture is the best we've found.

Hulababy · 09/03/2004 20:41

We have a huge bottle of bubbles from ELC (about 2 litres for £5) which seems really good.

Misdee, I am very touched that it is your mission to help me with my dull household queries so rapidly (dishwasher much better but still a bit streaky btw, still very grateful to you)
Yes I have experience with that elc stuff but to get it I would have to go to Brent Cross and that might just tip me over the edge, so to speak

WedgiesMum · 09/03/2004 20:49

Easy to make

8 cups washing up liquid (as good quality as you can afford)
4 Cups water
1 tablespoon of glycerine (from the chemist)
Mix together carefully, then you will have SHED LOADS

Sue/Misdee- we have the bubble machine too and everyone loves it - children and adults alike. At New Year we had the bubbles blowing off of our balcony onto the street below and ven the party goers were all interested in where the bubbles were from

DS2 got the ELC bubble machine for his birthday last week along with the huge bottle of bubbles. Excellent fun! I just wish it was main operated.
