Vasectomy - how much bleeding is normal?

Dh had the snip yesterday, poor man. He said it wasn't bad at all really but just got progressively more painful as the evening wore on. When he went to bed he realised he had bled quite a lot from one side (TMI alert - through a couple of pads and on to his jeans). Is this much normal? and when will it stop?

He's still asleep now so I have no idea how much he bled overnight or how swolen he is today.

How long does recovery normally take?

TIA

I'm not sure what's "normal", but dh did not bleed anywhere near this much. His swelling was also relatively minor.
It took him two weeks to fully recover and feel 'back to normal'.
Hope your dh feels better soon.

Had the vasectomy last year - swelling normal, bleeding not so - sounds like burst stitches to me..need to get to clinic to avoid poss. infection of wound...recovery? Varies, but will be much easier to move around etc after about 4 days normally (Japanese men actually DO go for it in their lunch time, and then back to work!). Dh should be offski to get his loved one's seen to. PAss on my sympathies?

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll make him a triage appointment at the GP just to check it out. I was quite surprised by the amount of blood myself. He didn't have stitches but yes, the infection worry is there. I'll get him to wash the area in teatree and water and see if its still bleeding I guess.

Bless him, he still says it wasn't that bad and isn't making a big thing of it. I guess compared to my c-section a vasectomy is relatively minor but he still has all my sympathies.

Good luck with it! we all have our 'best' snip story. Mines was not having enough knock-out drug in the region and actually feeling the stab of the scalpel in my tender area.....the thought of that might cheer him up!

His was like that too Lottielou! The doc asked him if the Diazepam had worked and he said "what's it meant to feel like?" so he knew it hadnt worked and the local only worked on one side (ouch). However, the diazepam kicked in on the car on the way home (me driving obviously!)and DH became a giggly silly little drunk boy! really rather funny - shame you cant buy it legally! he said it was worth the vasectomy to score that high - he's still not convinced they wont let him have another op to get another chance to experience it.

Anyway, bleeding now stopped thankfully, and he's up and about nearly smiling. Thanks for the advice!
