I say, I didn't know that.

Bag of spice anyone?

Mayadeine · 01/08/2006 13:59

It is Swiss National Day today... dh has the day off, feels ill from tummy bug that we have all had and has to go into work but is asleep on the couch!

jamiesam · 01/08/2006 14:02

ey up, tutter - Yorkshire Day's been going for 25 years, you must have left God's Own County when you were VERY young.

You'll none of you be wearing a white rose then?

25 years? seriously? i grew up in the Peoples Republic of South Yorks (til i was 18) and i've never heard of it

yellowfeathers - spice eh? you must be from south yorks too i reckon? quite a local, local thing that i thought?

sometimes known as a bag of spegs

people down here wouldn't understand me if i slipped into proper barnsley

Cappucino · 01/08/2006 16:37

'spegs'?

it was 'spogs' in West Yorkshire

Cappucino · 01/08/2006 16:40

but come to think of it my grandpa used to say 'spice' and he was West as well

it's actually a former county now, btw, it's not a county any more

so it must be 'god's own former county'

jamiesam · 01/08/2006 20:16

God's own former county How could you Cappucino .

Tutter, I suspect Yorkshire Day might be a North Yorkshire invention (Dales Diary sort of thing) - certainly hadn't reached Leeds when I were a lass...

Spice huh? Never come across in Leeds, but did come across in Retford (North Notts)

Mirage · 01/08/2006 21:10

Thats why dh is grumbling then. He's a Lancashire boy.

hulababy · 01/08/2006 21:19

Have to admit it is first time I have heard of it, and I have lived in Yorkshire all my life, albeit South Yorkshire.
