Pet peeve ( you can't hate dentists - we are here to help and alleviate pain etc - you may fear and thus hate the treatment and concept of going to the dentist though).

HappyDaddy · 02/08/2006 22:55

Knowing you're a dentist suddenly your name makes sense, ComeOVeneer.

And yes, it's visiting the dentist I hate not the dentist themselves.

ComeOVeneer · 02/08/2006 22:56

All joking aside, can you imagine having a job where face to face people regularly tell you they "hate people like you" (you have to laugh it of but does it make you feel that you are ina rewarding environment?

SpaceCadet · 02/08/2006 22:56

COV-thats what i said,,its not the dentist..its the treatment which i find scary..i know that most dentists are very understanding if you tell them you have dental phobia..i think its worthwhile adding..im terrified of hospital trteatment(despite being a nurse) but am not scared of doctors and nurses.

SpaceCadet · 02/08/2006 22:57

oh how horrible..id hate having that said to me too.

HappyDaddy · 02/08/2006 22:59

Whenever I've said the anaesthetic doesn't work, every dentist smiles knowingly and gives their assistant a look as if saying "another hypochondriac". Then, half an hour and three huge doses later I'm peeling myself off the ceiling and saying "I did tell you".

They are always very worried looking though.

Ever thought about changing to a more friendly career? Traffic warden? Bailiff?

ComeOVeneer · 02/08/2006 23:01

Trust me Hd I always get complemented on my painless and effective injections.

psychomum5 · 02/08/2006 23:01

feel bad now.

you are right CO...tis not dentists....tis the treament, and the noise, like I have said.

plus....what is it about that smell too. all dental practises smell the same......that gets me too.

to be fair tho....hospitals smell the same too, so I know it isn't just that, but there is a specific smell when I walk in!!!

maybe it is the filling mixture???? had too many off those

SpaceCadet · 02/08/2006 23:02

oh bless..poor COV...you ARE in a rewarding job..

TambaIsBadBadBad · 02/08/2006 23:02

My dentist used Pinacolada flavour stuff on my teeth on my teeth once. She thought she was being nice, cause it was new.... it tasted sooo foul, but didnt tell her cause I like being on her good side

Quootiepie · 02/08/2006 23:03

ComeOveneer..... my dentist gave me a route canal... guess how many injections I had to have before I went dumb?

edam · 02/08/2006 23:03

I used to have a mad dentist who didn't 'believe' in using anaesthesia for just one small filling. And then shouted at me for leaping ten feet in the air when he hit a nerve!

Am sure you'd never do anything like that, though, COV?

Quootiepie · 02/08/2006 23:03

NUMB

HappyDaddy · 02/08/2006 23:03

COV, I'm not debasing any dentist's ability or skills. I never feel the needle, my mouth feels numb and if you tap my teeth and gums with that spokey thing i can't feel it. As soon as the drill gets going it's as if the whole wears off instantly.

It is real pain, too, not imagined. When I had all my crowns (8 in two sessions) the dentist was nearly in tears he was so worried.

SherlockLGJ · 02/08/2006 23:03

Dumb or numb ???

Quootiepie · 02/08/2006 23:04

4... yes 4 i tell you... I was in and out for 2 hours. I was in agony for about a week after

ComeOVeneer · 02/08/2006 23:05

Strawberry - sounds like an infection probably an abcess (you need antibiotics plus lots of hot salt water rinses).

SherlockLGJ · 02/08/2006 23:06

LMAO

at how this thread has descended into a discussion about dentists.............

COV, if you were a Doctor, I would show you my dicky leg.

ComeOVeneer · 02/08/2006 23:07
