Yet another silly game.

Just got sent this:

  1. Pick the number of times a week you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less then 10 )

  2. Multiply by 2.

  3. Add 5 (for Sunday?)

  4. Multiply by 50, I'll wait while you get your calculator......

  5. If you've already had a birthday this year add 1752...if you haven't, add 1751.

  6. Now subtract the 4 digit year you were born - you should have 3 digits remaining.

First = original number of times you want chocolate....

Second = YOUR AGE (Oh, yes it does!)

Apparently, 2002 is the only year this will ever work in!

Tinker but I'm only 21, what happened? R

Tinker · 27/02/2002 20:42

Should say "Oh, yes it IS"

Rhiannon - are you sure or are you teasing? Just checked and it worked for me? Aaaaaaaaarrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!! Don't want to do it again - I can't cut and paste on this pc!!!!

ChanelNo5 · 27/02/2002 21:25

It worked for me, Tinker!

SueDonim · 27/02/2002 21:32

And me - ooer!

jessi · 27/02/2002 22:08

Tinker, that is brilliant! Worked for me!

mollipops · 28/02/2002 07:03

That's amazing!!!! Maths can be fun, if only kids could appreciate that!

Thanx Tinker!

amymum · 28/02/2002 10:04

Thanks, Tinker! Got me thinking about chocolate early on in the day and reminded me that the big 30 is looming! Strange that it will only work in 2002 - anyone clever mums out there care to elaborate?

TigerFeet · 28/02/2002 10:51

Worked for me too - how depressing!!! I could pretend to be 7 and then I would be able to eat chocolate 30 times a week and not get fat & spotty!!! How do you put the little smiley faces in by the way?

Lizzer · 28/02/2002 11:36

Brilliant tinker, I'm off to tell my friends...

ScummyMummy · 28/02/2002 11:43

My maths has gone very wrong because according to my calculations I'm 64! Will do it again when I've got access to a calculator!

Crunchie · 28/02/2002 12:23

Blimy this is a good one!! It works!

WideWebWitch · 28/02/2002 12:43

It does work! I'm impressed.

Dixie · 28/02/2002 13:09

Thats really weird...it worked for me.

tech · 28/02/2002 15:29

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm not a mum but....

If we say the number you thought of is x
then you can write the sum as
((2x + 5) * 50) + 1752
If you multiply all that out you get
100x + 250 + 1752 ===
100x + 2002

So basically, after step 5 you are looking at 100 times the number you first thought of, plus this year - 2002
If you take your year of birth from this year, you get your age, so if you take your year of birth from this number you get your age + 100 times the number you first thought of.

It's true it'll only work for 2002. Next year the numbers to add will be 1752 and 1753, and it'll work. It doesn't work now if your age is 100 or over by the way, so the Queen mother is out of luck. Love, tech (bit bored today to tell the truth)

JoAnne427 · 28/02/2002 15:49

Tech you're funny!

WideWebWitch · 28/02/2002 16:08

Tech, I knew it all came down to algebra and maths, but couldn't have explained why! Didn't listen hard enough at school... Thanks for the logical explanation.

robbie · 28/02/2002 16:48

Who'd have thought it - a funny tech?

Lill · 28/02/2002 18:48

Tech you made my brain ache!
Whatever - it worked for me.

Ailsa · 28/02/2002 20:29

Tinker's worked for me but tech's didn't. Tinkers gave me my age now, tech's gave the age I'll be later this year.

Tinker · 28/02/2002 22:48

tech - are you male or female? If you're male can I have a little crush on you?

OP posts:
tech · 28/02/2002 23:12

Stop it Tinker, you're making me bashful. Yes I am male. I'm pretty ugly though.

JoAnne427 · 28/02/2002 23:15

Perhaps, but didn't you know? Funny always gets the girl!

justiner · 28/02/2002 23:26

Don't believe it - he's drop dead gorgeous.

justiner · 28/02/2002 23:27

...in a techy sort of way.

Lizzer · 28/02/2002 23:57

And all the laydees swooned...ahhh...

Oooo help I think I've a really serious problem with getting my posts to preview - wonder what it could be? Does anyone know who I could ask? Someone with brains and the ability to explain really hard stuff really well...like algebra 'n' things?
