Have you seen those scented tampon adverts?

Yes scented tampons, not scented adverts. Does anyone else find the idea revolting? I actually shrieked in horror at the advert

And you use these????
Sorry to be so personal but do you have a tartan one or burberry?

mell2 · 27/07/2006 17:10

i'm sure i remember years ago tampons with plastic fragrant applicators. I thought they were withdrawn because they caused infections (the plastic applicator could scratch)

I might just be imagining all this, so in which case just ignore the above.

expatinscotland · 27/07/2006 17:10

i don't use pads at all. never used them except after having children.

Pierre · 27/07/2006 17:49

Imagine if the smell of those tampons was recognisable - like Anais Anais or something. You could stand next to someone in a lift and know that they were on

And while we're on the subjext - thats a thread we've never had - sex and periods: the taboos: discuss......

expatinscotland · 27/07/2006 17:51

i have NO libido during my period. none. and tbh, it puts me off b/c of decreased sensation down there.

no, it's not for me.

alexsmum · 27/07/2006 18:21

thank you for sticking up for me icklboo!!! my apologies if i'm off target liesel¬!

Greensleeves · 27/07/2006 18:34

Liesel ain't me, Iklboo....she sounds genuine IMO

Greensleeves · 27/07/2006 18:36

....although some months ago I did have a similar hilariously disbelieving conversation with WigWamBam following her shocking (to me) disclosure that she uses reusable sanitary pads, soaks them in a bucket and puts the "stock" from the bucket on her houseplants. I shit ye not.

I'm sure she won't mind me sharing this helpful little housekeeping tip on her behalf

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 27/07/2006 18:42

Has anyone ever stood next to a woman and known she was on because of a lingering odour? Could it possibly be a Proctor&Gamble myth that fannies on heat smell shocking even if you change your disposable product the recommended number of times?

NB I use a Mooncup for the first 4 days then I get bored and use pads (yes they are all mad-looking, one has frogs and another has a cow on it )

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 27/07/2006 18:45

"Stock" LOL!!! Yup, cold water in a tub under the UBend only girls or it's Gravy City. Mine go in the nappy bucket and the Mooncup used to go in the steriliser with the bottles

I just couldn't do earthmother.

The Frenchman would divorce me, and under the courts here am sure he would be granted divorce under "unreasonable behaviour".

WigWamBam · 27/07/2006 19:11

Don't mind at all, Greeny! Although Liesel would probably faint clean away at the thought of using said stock on the plants ...

I promise mine aren't Burberry though

Greensleeves · 27/07/2006 19:12

Hello WWB I didn't think you'd mind!

WigWamBam · 27/07/2006 19:14

Nah, I'm not proud

No, quootie - I use pads ... washable ones. I never got on with tampons, so can't see me being able to use a Mooncup either - otherwise I'd have one like a shot.

quootiepie · 27/07/2006 19:42

washable? how do they stick?

expatinscotland · 27/07/2006 19:43

pads feel like nappies to me. yuk! i HATED having to use them after giving birth. horrid.

WigWamBam · 27/07/2006 19:44

They have "wings" that wrap underneath and fasten with a popper.

quootiepie · 27/07/2006 19:46

last time I wore a tampon i nearly passed out with the pain! Well, no, last time I wore one was a dirty great big one they shoved up me after I had my son... no idea why. I was horrified when it was pulled out.

brimfull · 27/07/2006 20:02

thanks bucketofdinos,I'll look out for the natracre tampon.lol at the reusables, could just imagine her face lol!
kama,well there's hope then!

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 27/07/2006 20:04

Lots of people (well, women) find their period pains are less painful when they stop using tampons. Perhaps it's the superabsorbent suction...
And tampons and mooncups aren't for everyone, not everyone wants to get that up close and personal to their bits. You do need well-fitting pants for pads of any sort though, have finally chucked out my old post-partum baggies as I realised my comedy cloth pad was hanging some distance below my actual crotch whenever I wore a skirt.
But it's always a good time to have an underwear clearout (his AND hers.)

Think big Sainsburys branches do Natracare products (unbleached, organic, degradable etc) and Holland&Barratt. I run a real nappy network so I'm supposed to be an expert on ecosanpro too. Can't help preaching
