Run around a busy beach completely naked?

I was at the beach this morning and a little girl was running about with nothing on I would have a least had knickers on her.
It kind of made me feel uncomfortable.

OP posts:
CuntyMcGrunty · 26/07/2006 22:37

Yes, I would.

CuntyMcGrunty · 26/07/2006 22:38

Oh NO sorry everyone, it's Greensleeves here, oh how terribly inappropriate, oh I am sorry, I had quite forgotten about the namechange, I will bugger off immediately

Angeliz · 26/07/2006 22:39

No i wouldn't.

Angeliz · 26/07/2006 22:40

Snort at Greeny!

alison222 · 26/07/2006 22:42

No I would make DD wear knickers - naked is fine at home but not out

nikkie · 26/07/2006 22:50

knickers and t-shirt if no cossie at the beach. At home cossie or usually nothing, dd1 (6) always wears knickers , doesn't do naked !

LuluPuiMingPants · 26/07/2006 22:53

at Greeny

hunkermunker · 26/07/2006 22:53

PMSL at the "appropriateness" of Greeny's namechange for this thread!

anthonykiedisbitontheside · 26/07/2006 22:58

I would but covered in sunblock. She hasn't done it yet though because opportunity hasn't arose. My dd is quite feral at home atm she has been naked everyday and even sunk as low as peeing in the yard! Today she came in and announced "mummy i've just weed in the corner of the yard like the cat"

jodee · 26/07/2006 23:13

We were on the beach Monday and there was a boy happy as larry playing naked, he must have been 7 or 8. DS is 6 and is now self-conscious about changing into his trunks, had to hide behind a towel and would never be naked in public now.

Twiglett · 26/07/2006 23:19

YES OF COURSE

as long as it wasn't between 11 and 3 when we wouldn't be on a beach anyway

bunch of prudes ... give your kids a break and let them be kids

Blu · 27/07/2006 00:07

I wouldn't even discuss my child naked on MN in case some pervert called CuntyMcGrunty or something was reading. Shudder, faint.

But on a beach? Yes, why not. I echo Twiglett...wiglett....igeltt..tt..t

FairyMum · 27/07/2006 00:17

Probably not on a British beach because everyone seems to cover up their kids. They do go naked on holidays in countries were people are less prudish.

Greensleeves · 27/07/2006 00:22
Blush
Alipiggie · 27/07/2006 00:57

You could try and stop my ds's from going naked but on your head be it . They love it and why not, let their innocence last there's nothing wrong with nudity and as long as we're there to protect them from the perverts of this world. Mind spend the vast majority of the day naked well it is over 35 ever day here. Plenty of sunblock. But this is in our backyard. Colorado has rules of nakedness which may explain why Americans are prudish - it's the rules. Remember reading another thread abou this today.

threebob · 27/07/2006 03:40

No, but only because of the sun. I have no issue with the fact that there may be perverts watching. As long as watching is all they do I'll never know.

joelallie · 27/07/2006 11:50

Yes. But well suncreamed only. I let DS#2 run about naked just about anywhere. If there are perverts around I don't see how them simply looking at him is going to do him any harm. Their problem not his. (I got some very negative responses on another website for having said this - basically accused me of being next best thing to a paedophile but wtf!)As for abducting him...well that isn't going to be any more likely because he's got no clothes on rather than a pair of pants or trunks. DH or and I are with him all the time, not to mention his older siblings.

Or was the original question really only about little girls? FWIW I used to let DD run about naked too.

My kids won't be constrained by other people's inadequacies and perversions.

alligator · 27/07/2006 12:25

yep I would (not during the day tho cos of the sun Id put a tshirt on her then if she was out) but early evening no probs. Dd wont wear wet clothes at all (not even swimming togs) so goes into the water comes out and takes them off and then goes back into the water again So no point in even putting them on in hte first place really.

As for perverts well there arent that many round radomly lurking. Most child abuse occurs with someone known ot the child anyway rather than rahdom strangers

prettybird · 27/07/2006 12:29

I agree with Joelallie.

If ds (5) had wanted to run around naked on holiday, we would have let him, but he's already conditioned to wear stuff "in company". As it was, he was totally unselfconsciouos about getting changed into his swimming gear on the beach or by the pool - long may that last!

alexsmum · 27/07/2006 12:33

yes i would and do let them.lots of suncream and a hat.

donnie · 27/07/2006 13:01

my 4 year old has been naked on the beach before but generally we keep her well covered up as she is so fair. I would prefer her to wear pants rather than nothing because as others say, there are some nasty people out there.

lionheart · 27/07/2006 14:11

Nope, never.

beckybrastraps · 27/07/2006 14:16

Of course. I agree with Joelallie - even in the unlikely event of a paedophile being present on the beach, being looked at is not going to hurt them.

I took dd (20mo) to a swimming lesson in just a swim nappy, and was told it was inappropriate for her not to be in a swimming costume!

It is ridiculous.

suzywong · 27/07/2006 14:17

Yes I would here, In Australia, the beaches are active places and people don't sunbathe as in loll around on towels so I would presume there would be fewer opportunities for the wrong knd of people to "observe".
However I have boys. May feel very different about a girl.

harpsichordcarrier · 27/07/2006 14:21

"My kids won't be constrained by other people's inadequacies and perversions."
quite right joelallie
who told you it was "inappropriate" beckybs? that's lunacy
