How do you cope running in this heat?

Do you continue your usual schedule? I haven't got out for two weeks as every time I think about it, the sun is pounding down and I think I'll keel over if I dare. Any advice?

ooh no, sit down put your feet up and have a nice cold drink.

(I don't run btw, so this is prob not very helpful)

I go at 7am or 9pm when it's not too hot

dinny · 24/07/2006 17:11

how soon do you go o bed after running at 9p, Rowlers? do you find it helps or hinders your sleeping? and when do you eat - before or after?

Have to say I run in a gym (though air con is broken at the moment), but make sure I go and have done my run before 10:30 am and the heat of the day has built up. Stops me thinking about it too much and dreading it because I've spent too much time thinking about how hot it is and how much hotter it'll make me feel etc. etc.
Failing that is there any other exercise you could do as a stop-gap?

I haven't been out as much either dinny. Have picked up a bit since Friday though - was cooler so went at tea-time; Sunday went at 8.30 am, so not dreadfully early, tonight is a class but it'll be hot and tomorrow I'm due to go at 8.30 pm.

Mornings are better I think - it's much cooler and by the end of the day my legs feel like lead in the heat.

We eat with DD so usually at around 5.30 / 6.00pm so a run at 9pm is fine
Have to say I only go a mile and a half so doesn't affect sleep at all really - we are always late in bed anyway despite our best efforts

right, have just eaten with the children so am going to try and go at 9pm. watch this space

Now I'll have to go too
Hang on, I went this morning
Scrap that
But I'll be thinking of you!
Hope it's cooled down enough by then

dinny · 24/07/2006 18:44

how long do you run for then if doing 1.5 miles? and how often - every day?

Rowlers · 24/07/2006 18:49

I'm really slow - it takes me 16 - 17 minutes
I TRY to go every day; it's usually 4 times a week
