Attempted suicide - how can I help?

I'm feeling very atm.

My cousin's dh tried to take his own life on Friday by taking an overdose. He is critical in hospital.

They have 3 gorgeous young kids and this is such a shock to us all. I want to do/say something to help but am at a complete loss. I don't live to near her so can't really do practical things like childcare, but any advice would be appreciated.

At a total loss to understand why a young man would ever feel so low that he resorts to this.

Thinking of you Northerner and hoping you get better news soon.

I'm so sorry that your family is going through this. My sister took a paracetamol/codiene OD last year (63 tabs) and we were so very scared for her. It's a horrible feeling. Thankfully her body rejected it (she vomitted probably due to the codiene in the tablets) and very little paracetamol got into her bloodstream for which we're very thankful, but she was kept in hospital for the sake of her mental health for a few weeks after they'd established she was ok physically.

I sincerely hope your cousin's dh pulls through this and makes a full recovery both physically and mentally. Just knowing you're there to support your cousin and that you care so much will help her cope with this very traumatic event.

Your poor cousin must be furious, amongst other feelings.

Have you been able to speak to her, Northerner?

I hope he is going to be ok northerner, unfortunately when you are in that state of mind you dont think of the pain and suffering it causes to the people around you - thiking of you and your family

Just going through my old watch list and wondering how things are with your cousin's dh now Northerner.

Oh bless you. Things still aren't good though. He is still in a bad way, not yet returned to work, very depressed, on strong medication and has reported hearing voices in his head

She is struggling. But thanks for asking.

You say you live far away, is there anyway you can let the kids come stay with you for a while? They could probably use a change of scene.

Had hoped things might have improved for them. Depression is truly a most cruel illness.
