How i regret signing up for this.

I have questions.

  1. Can you be dressed to your shoes and have your sliipers on? ( I like slippers and dont want to wear outdoor shoes all day)
  2. I couldnt possibly throw away 27 itmes form around my house...that would include the dsses! 3, How do you find the time to read all the blinking e mails and fit inyour regular life?

Oooooooooooooooh, wait for it, the e-mails will start coming in thicker and faster soon.

I regretted it from day one and soon un joined the site

bundle · 01/03/2004 15:42

MrsCOdswallop · 01/03/2004 15:44

I listened to the advice re the e-mails and never subscribed - just try to look at the web-site once a day and pick up on the current "zone" and mission.

I have found it helped me - even if just by emphasising the "baby steps" aspects and doing things in small chunks - and not stressing about doing everything at once. 5 minutes is better than nothing!

In answer to your questions:

  1. Flylady would disagree, but I think you CAN be dressed to your shoes and have your slippers on - as long as you "feel" you are dressed! I "cheat" and wear my UGG boots (real Australian ones, not the pseudo Australian ones that the stars are apparently currently wearing) - but because they have soles that are suitable for outside, it means I can take the rubbish out etc. I CERTAINLY don't feel the shoes have to be lace-ups! (especially if I am wearing expensive L K Bennet court shoes!)

  2. The 27 items can apparently include bits of paper - so if you have credit card slips or receipts you need to throw out of your purse to clear it out (one of my "hot spots" ), then each piece of paper would count. If you're still struggling, then your house must be fantastically uncluttered with great Feng Shui - and stop stressing about it! Pick a smaller number that is suitable for you

  3. I don't! (see above! )

  1. I ignore this one - it didn't help me.
2. I do the 27 item fling only when we get a charity bag through the door. General decluttering gets done with the zones. 3. She does a daily digest version of the mail which I find handy, but once you know the system tbh you don't need the mails at all.

Hope this helps

Clarinet60 · 01/03/2004 17:30

I daren't access the site because I'm sidetracked by mumsnet enough as it is. So could anyone tell me why she advocates wearing shoes? I don't wear outdoor shoes inside at all - it means you don't have to hoover as much, lol.

GeorginaA · 01/03/2004 17:33

It's supposed to be better for your feet, posture, and gets you into a "professional work mode".

GeorginaA · 01/03/2004 17:36

Her general idea though, is just because no-one might see you that day, for self-esteem etc you should still look after yourself and dress properly, put on a little makeup on, etc. Hence "dress to your shoes".

Clarinet60 · 01/03/2004 17:42

I do feel better when I get dressed properly, as someone always comes when you look slobby. I'm not changing my slippers though.
Thanks Georgina.

Alos IMHO it is so if you need to go outside you actually 'finish' the job., Ie put the rubbish out, rather than it stacking up by the back door. This is certainly one of my Hotspots, along with the top of the microwave, the dresser, the stairs, by bedside table and the computor desk. All in all I have loads of these spots where junk accumulates. I can clean my whole house iwthout touching any of them, but I do try once a week to sort out at least one of them. Usually the top of the microwave as this is where all the letters, bill, bits of important paper settle. The dresser is for hairbrushes and elastic bands, the back door area is for all the recyling rubbish, the stairs for everything that needs to go upstairs and I find downstairs. Now I just need to train DH not to step over it every time!!

This is the bit that I like and look at nearly every day. I think it is also what JanZ was referring to

MrsCOdswallop · 01/03/2004 18:44

squirmyworm · 01/03/2004 19:23

oh god - getting dressed properly..
today I went out in a pair of eighties tracky pants my mum lent me when I was pg complete with flourescent stripes down one leg (soooo roomy!), plus a large blue tunic and a headache inducing flowery top from kids bennetton that has an unflattering roll neck and makes me look like a sofa. also old brown walking shoes and my husbands large navy fleece.

Clarinet60 · 01/03/2004 22:37

Hmm, dust bunnies. Yup, see plenty of those around these parts.

Janh · 01/03/2004 22:57

I could throw away 2700 items not including bits of paper.

Now if mumsnet would just stop calling me every day...

Angeliz · 01/03/2004 23:05

I think Flylady suggests keeping a special pair of lace-up tennis shoes for wearing in the house. I think the idea of lace-ups is that they are less easy just to kick off.

Personally I wear slippers and still go out to the bin in them. They usually end up smelling during the summer when I hang the washing on the line before going to work and get them covered in dew. But a quick wash with the towels and they're OK again.
