I've tried cleaning my ball - haven't lubed it though.

Dunno what dh would say if he found a tube of KY by the computer!

Have you cleaned the compartment as well as the ball. There are little rollers in there that get clogged up with dirt.

Perhaps its your mat? I hate the nylony ones that give a sort of crackly scrapping.
