I assume its because these areas are enclosed and the temperatures for official records are only taken in certain areas across the Country. Bit like did it snow Christmas Day is only official if a flake of snow lands on BBC weather centre.

Yes, I think the Met Office has stations in various places around the country and these readings are the 'official' ones that you see on the news etc. You do also get micro-climates

When we moved into this house in March it was snowing, but it didn't take long for us to realise that the patio is a perfect suntrap and the walls of the house retain the sun's heat even on a chilly day - wonderful, we thought.

Didn't plan on a heatwave, though.

Oooh, Saltire I used to live not far from you (wondering if we have had this conversation before, my memory is really bad). Was going to go to Elie yesterday but only got as far as Kinghorn before we bailed out the car and onto the beach, glad we didn't go further north.

At least we have contrast in our seasons, makes us appreciate them more I think (however hot or cold it is). Gives us one more thing to moan about! Love that picture though, sigh.
