A real life Parker's Guide

I am trying to decide whether to buy a van to move to France in that I will re-sell, or to hire one for required 10 days at a few quid short of £700.

I know next to nothing about vehicles but have looked at a few vans now and found one for £3250.

Made an offer of £3000 - accepted. It is a 98 Ford Transit Luton with 84 000 warranted miles. MOT until October and taxed.

The idea is I will re-sell in a few weeks for almost the same price, thus saving us about £500 quid after insurance, etc.

This, boring dilemma though it is, is soooooo stressing me out as cannot make rest of arrangements until I know what we are doing and we leave in under 2 weeks!

Please HELP!

sounds like a good idea - have you checked out resale value etc - is it a private seller or trade?

I checked the Parkers online guide and resale value if in good condition (it is in excellent condition) is actually more than bloke is asking by a couple of hundred quid.

I'm not foolish enough to think that I'd make money on this but can afford to lose up to what the van rental would cost me.

My concern is, apart from fact it is such a big risk, if the man hasn't sold it in the 5 days it has been advertised then will I sell it?!!

It is on ebay and has 4 days to go with 1 bid of £2000 currently.

I wish I had a clue about cars and stuff...

Private seller, btw. 'Seems' genuine guy but whos to say?
