should children still be at school in this heat?

Will they not be just as hot at home?

Working parents would find it quite difficult, I think.

No schools have shut round with us.

Blandmum · 18/07/2006 16:55

sorry, all parents work . Non SAHM

Mercy · 18/07/2006 17:36

A couple of primary schools here (N London) will be closing tomorrow - after lunch I think. It was 36° in dd's class this afternoon but you have a point Martian, it's currently 33 in our house!

purpleturtle · 18/07/2006 17:38

Except the difference is that not many parents are trying to cope with 30 overheated children at once. They're not going to learn much in a sweltering classroom, and I don't know of schools with paddling pools and ice creams to hand.

Blimy, there would be a riot in some quarters if the schools sent the kids home. It would be a real issue for non SAHP.

and I am still teaching all my classes, I don't have curriculum time to to.

poor little buggers in y7 have a test with me tomorrow!

Blandmum · 18/07/2006 17:41

22 seconds to correct it though

Farking impressive in this heat

purpleturtle · 18/07/2006 17:43

When I au paired in Germany it was standard practice to close school when it got to a certain (unbearable) temperature. I think it was a legal thing. I guess at least parents were then a little bit forewarned. Not really a common problem here though, yet...

Blandmum · 18/07/2006 17:44

My two have finished school over a week ago, lucky beggers, and I still have the rest of the week to go!

Counting the days

2shoes · 18/07/2006 18:09

southeastastra · 18/07/2006 18:50

Blandmum · 18/07/2006 19:04

Hard bastard, me.

I don't have the time to waste. As it was I had to compress lessons to cover all the work

Can't wait

Skribble · 18/07/2006 23:30

We finished up couple of weeks ago, so this week kids are at an activity week in a country park, so I am spending this week mostly lounging under trees reading .

Kids out and about 10-12 in and out of woodland so quite a bit of shade and lovely coastal breezes, lunch in the shade of the trees and indoor activity in the afternoon. Bliss.

Have to laugh at the families plastering the kids in factor 10,000 and then wandering about in the sun all day, then sitting out on a picnic rug in blistering sun for lunch. The place is surrounded by trees FGS. Probably on Mumsnet worry about what factor to use .
