Hi
Did anyone else go to the CGTV auditions this weekend (7th Dec) at the Hammersmith Novotel?
They said that the select 30-40 out of the 300 kids that they see. I reckon they select everyone in the hope that you'll pay the $5000 to send your kid to LA for a week. If 200 people sign up, they've made themselves an easy $1m.
My kid got "the call" the following morning to say that they had made it. Did yours??

Abbie :o fair point! I stand corrected.

But I think I can safely say that in mind, body and soul I am a woman. I couldn't say that for someone else on the basis that they have vagina. So, whilst my vagina provides some evidence that i am a woman, its absence or presence does not prove anything in the absence of other data (is that better?)

See?! See Krakken?! It's not even an absolute that my vagina proves I'm a woman.

I'd like to say I can prove I'm blonde by the fact that my hair is blonde, but that might be a bit of a fib.

Even though the sun has risen in the east(ish) every single day that any of us have been alive, and every day that our ancestors were alive, that does not constitute proof that it will rise in the east(ish) tomorrow. The balance of probabilities, based on our knowledge, experience, written and verbal records (aka evidence) is that tomorrow the sun will rise in the east(ish).

So even if you think it's a fact that the sun rises in the east(ish), and will therefore will rise in the east(ish) tomorrow, that isn't a given.

Likewise, you cannot prove negative existence. That means that you could say there are no green crows. However, you cannot prove that there has never bee a green crow in the whole history of the world, ever, anywhere in the world, because you simply don't know. All you can do is assume that because there are no records or even hearsay that someone has seen a green crow, that green crows don't exist.

Mind you, I went to Tibet and behind a large rock I saw what I thought was a green crow. I threw myself upon it in an effort to capture it, but failed, rolled a long way down the mountain and broke every bone in my body. I shan't be trying to prove my old science teacher wrong again, I tell you.

So you see, there are facts, there are assumptions made from observation and then there is opinion. Your opinion is that Adrian is a great actor and all round great guy...

Beautifully put, Jux.

Was it Karl Popper who said, you cannot prove anything, even if a ball comes down a thousand times when it's thrown up, there's nothing to say it will next time? You can say it's likely to, based on experience, but not that it definitively will.

It's been 15 years a while since I studied Popper.

Same here, FYC. I have a feeling that perhaps Atistotle may have said it originally, talking about a stone. But I am probably making that up.

Mind you, that does mean that you cannot prove that God does not exist any more than adherents can prove he does. OTOH, belief is not a sensible subject for proof, I don't think. But that's not what we're debating here.

Jux, we got deep. From a children's performance camp to the impossibility of proving or disproving the existence of a deity. Amazing.

I would just like to add my story regarding CGTV. Unfortunately, they contacted my son on his cell phone and left a message flattering him. I don't know how they got his number, they never would say. I said it could be a scam. My husband took him to a hotel in San Diego and talked with them. He went back the next day and I begged him not to pay anything yet. I saw no fees advertised for their summer course. It was $6,000 which I said is impossible and we need to research them. My son is already well trained as an actor even at 16 and was pretty sure he did not just need contacts. They then gave my husband a discount of $3000. Against my advice my husband paid it saying that he had to pay otherwise he would not get the discount. Also they signed a contract that they would refund any money if we cancelled within two weeks. Virgil R'Mante is the name. I was busy that weekend so I could not go to the meeting. They had a month to return the money but guess what, they never returned it. We are now pursuing them and I will let everyone know what they have done. Please spread the word so that no one else gets sucked in to this scheme. So sad they are dishonest. There are some decent reviews about the camp so why are they risking their name by not paying us back our money which is illegal? FYI the money went to a bank in Florida.
