Hi
Did anyone else go to the CGTV auditions this weekend (7th Dec) at the Hammersmith Novotel?
They said that the select 30-40 out of the 300 kids that they see. I reckon they select everyone in the hope that you'll pay the $5000 to send your kid to LA for a week. If 200 people sign up, they've made themselves an easy $1m.
My kid got "the call" the following morning to say that they had made it. Did yours??

CaulkheadUpNorth · 25/06/2014 06:54

I don't think mn has ever had so many people from Arizona all join and register at the same time. Wow. I wonder how they found out about it...Hmm

I am ACTUALLY in the UK and I know how to use CAPITALS! I can tell you FOR SURE that putting an overseas PHONE NUMBER on here will not do ANY GOOD!

I also HAPPEN TO BE a theatre manager and the idea of anyone PAYING MONEY to pursue the dream of an ACTING CAREER is RIDICULOUS!

They also seem to skip over the visa issues.

It is not straightforward for a British child to work in US. It is highly unlikely that anyone would go through the huge hoops of sponsoring the required visa for an unknown actor/model.

It's worth knowing that, if you are from RoW, and you apply for temporary admission to the US, usually when you are on holiday and filling in the green card before entry, not only do you have to declare that you were not complicit in the persecution of Jews from 1939-45, and that you have not recently been on a farm, and that you are not entering the US in order to work or to seek employment, you are not allowed to take up vocational training which might equip you to seek employment in the US.

One of my chums was sternly told by US immigration that he would not be allowed during his visit to go to, for example, evening classes in, say, floristry, in case it equipped him to take a job as a florist, thus putting a US citizen who might otherwise have taken that job, out of work.

I am no expert on US immigration laws, but they are quite different from European laws. I notice that none of the posts advertising this audition company claim to be from a person outside US, or have any experience of visa requirements. I have only been to the US on holiday, when there is a concession on visas. It would be interesting to hear from a European who has travelled with the intention of paying for training as an actor.

This thread has amused me :)

For all those Americans posting, I may be alone, but none of those "celebrities" are big in the UK. I've never heard of them.

So just as I'm sure you wouldn't relish all the visa issues and cost of going abroad to be trained by such British greats as "Ant and Dec" or "that bloke that payed Rollie in Grange Hill", I can't see the attraction of being trained by whoever it was you named.

Jeez. Never have I seen a thread so filled with marketers. Really odd.

CGTV made it clear at our Seattle audition that this is an opportunity to meet Hollywood agents and learn about the Los Angeles media. My husband and I were skeptic and looked into the website before deciding. We are glad that our daughter participated in this program. It was a very positive experience and we did meet casting agents and people in the business. If your child is serious about acting in Los Angeles, this is definitely worth your time and money. As an Elementary Principal, I was glad that going to college and furthering your education was emphasized as enhancing a career in the entertainment industry.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 26/06/2014 16:01

For Americans it sounds super :)

For Brits with all the visa issues etc. it sounds unrealistic and far better that they find a similar course here.

As an Elementary Principal, I hope you were "sceptical" rather than "skeptic", as that isn't a word.

Keep 'em coming :o

saintlyjimjams · 26/06/2014 18:32

Gawd. Honestly if your child wants to pursue a performing career (or backstage or musician etc) look up NYMT, YMT:UK & NYT. Proper audition to get in each of those, competitive & well respected.

AuntieStella · 26/06/2014 18:36

Hollywood agents do not usually take on children who do not have a visa to work in US.

Is there any information on the visa requirements included in the course, or assistance in securing or for both child and chaperone for any employment?

CarolineKnappShappey · 26/06/2014 18:40

This is like an episode of Episodes...

When British skepticism meet American marketing bullshit.

donnie · 26/06/2014 18:41

what's so great about acting anyway? most wannabe actors end up in the porn industry Sad.

donnie · 26/06/2014 18:44

Oh yes, what does 'skeptic' mean?

Americans do say weird things though......like 'burglarize' . 'My house was burglarized'. No it wasn't, it was BURGLED.

It's an entertaining thread though Wink.

Tallie01 · 26/06/2014 18:49

My daughter just attended the June 14th workshop. It is so not a scam. It's pricey because there are a lot of stars that they bring in to help out. They even went to universal. Also the kids performed at the ACME theater. There where agents in the crowd watching them, to see if they had an interest in the kids. Overall even if she doesn't make it big with acting she still met great people, learned new skills, built her self-esteem and had a great time. She learned so much about Hollywood and was taught the ins and outs and was also shown how hard the business is. This definitely isn't a scam. It was a priceless experience. Thank you Adrian and to all of the staff at CGTV for giving my daughter the experience of a lifetime.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 26/06/2014 19:04

:o

It's the thread that keeps on giving.

That's exactly it, Caroline! Just like and episode of Episodes.

Those saying "this is not a scam" aren't really addressing the visa issues or the bemused British faces staring out into the ether at the weird bombardment.

I hope they keep coming as fast as they can name change.

You see, the British are a sceptical bunch. We like to call bullshit. Particularly where aggressive enthusiasm exists. We prefer understated sarcasm.

Could we have some enthusiastic understated sarcastic posts about how great Adrian is? Please?!
