Ok, so without the risk of sounding really thick here, I've had an email through with a voucher for a HUGE discount for an online photography course that is something I would really like to do, however I don't own a decent camera, would i need one?! Has anyone partaken in one of these courses/similar courses, if so any feedback would be great!

What camera do you have? And what's in the course syllabus? Lots of the technical side of photography won't be as useful if you just have a compact with limited controls. But the artistic side applies no matter what you're using to take photos with.

If it's specifically for an SLR course then could you buy a cheap second hand Nikon or Canon one? Or borrow a friend's?

You won't get much out of the course without one tbh.

If you're keen on photography then the loads of you tube professional videos are worth a shot. I'm not a professional photographer but I teach basic SLR photography and am completely self taught from reading the manual and watching you tube videos.

How much of the course is about actually taking photos and how much is about the editing?

I did a photography course but it was mainly learning how to use Photoshop, so I bought myself this camera and have been exceptionally pleased with it.
